Descent of the Spirit — 《Tranquil Peace》: the hundred grains flourish and teem, radiant upon the earth below. We reverently exalt this bright sacrifice, to be handed down through the ages. All things are nurtured to fullness; grain reaches every people. It is right to repay the root; the nation's rites are manifest for all to see. Presenting jade and silks and pouring the libation — 《Excellent Peace》.

Solemn is the great sacrifice; merit and benefit are proclaimed together. At the numinous altar we offer fine recompense, clear through every age. Grant abundant blessing. Bestow years of plenty. The soil yields sowing and harvest, in true accord with the people and Heaven. Sending off the Spirit — 《Tranquil Peace》: silks and sacrificial vessels are prepared; our words are upright and without reproach. With music we send the Spirit forth, completing our refined intent.

Two performances in Yellow Bell mode: the soil alone is honored; the people's food depends upon it. The yin sacrifice draws near; oxen and pens, raw and savory, are offered. Spirit of grain — nurturing within without end. The hundred good things flourish; the people rely upon its merit. The altar mounds are strictly arrayed; august bearing, solemn and harmonious. The spirit comes to receive the offering; we pray for abundant harvest. Two performances in Maiden Wash mode, zhi: how fine, how glorious — nurturing and sustaining the people! Reverently solemn is the bright sacrifice; we offer fragrant gifts. Grain offerings are abundant and pure; the spirit hears. Two performances in Southern Pitch mode, yu: baskets and stands are set forth; the three sacrificial animals announce to the hidden realm. The rite of returning to the root answers the spirit's blessing. Come to savor fragrant offerings; abundant harvest in autumn. Ah, the yin sacrifice — enfeoffing the soil, supremely exalted. At this auspicious hour — accept our drums and bells. Gentle and still, transforming radiance; the people rely upon its merit. We display these measured silks; the hundred goods are thus honored. Pouring the libation — 《Excellent Peace》: the Kun origin generates all things; merit and benefit are proclaimed together. Clear libation, fragrant as orchids; the numinous altar stands towering. We pour from the goblet and present the cup — may the spirit draw near! Second and final offerings — 《Cultured Peace》: we present excellence at the proper season; vast and full, the spirits draw near. We ascend this altar, pure and bright in reverence. We honor and present; here we follow the old regulations. Music's tones are pure and continuous; offerings overflow, round and square. Sentiment and pattern are complete; may the spirit come to taste! Forever behold the granted bounty — harvest abundant and teeming. Maiden Wash as zhi: grain relies on the soil's nurture; the people live by grain. Merit and benefit so vast — none can compare.

Solemn is the sacrificial altar; through offerings we present sincerity. Rites are complete and music performed; may the spirit look down and savor. Splendid is the Ancestress Spirit; she oversees sowing and reaping. Now is the harvest gathered; it is right to return to the root. A fine altar is established for sacrifice; jade and silks are displayed in ritual array. The bright spirit clearly approaches, granting abundant blessing. Returning to position, 《Upright Peace》: the state honors the great sacrifice; the earth's Way is numinous. Millet oversees the hundred grains; benefit and nurture are equally shared.

On the newly auspicious selected day, grain offerings are fragrant. The spirit feasts at ease, blessing the people below. Presenting the sacrificial tray, 《Abundant Peace》: finely receiving Heaven's harmony; millet and panicled millet abound. Silently assisting agricultural labor, it is the spirit's virtue. The tray holds sacrificial victims; we follow the old regulations as our model. May abundant years continue; our granaries number in the hundreds of millions.

The rite of returning to the root is recorded in the primary edicts. At the numinous altar we clearly announce; the spirit has come to listen. We withdraw those stands and baskets; our refined sincerity is fully spent. Truly it is abundant years, the farmers' celebration. Sending off the Spirit, 《Serene Peace》: thus grain for the multitude; merit clear through the ages. The state has fixed sacrifices; offerings are presented in ordered sequence.

Solemn and harmonious; the old regulations are all performed. The spirit guardian returns, granting us millet and panicled millet. Gazing at the burial, 《Upright Peace》: the earth bears the myriad things; the people rely upon its achievement. Returning to the root in the called sacrifice; the Great Altar of Grain is thus the same. Rites and music are complete; when burial is finished, we are even more reverent. May the spirit descend with blessing; seasons harmonious, years abundant.

Five Xining hymns for the Lord of Wind, Welcoming the Spirit, 《Joyful Peace》: drifting lightly they come, pattering as they descend. They unfurl their banners and array their chariots. There are stands and offerings, divination sites and altars. Banners are halted, chariots stopped; they descend and rest in peace.

Nurturing our fine life; we look up to the spirit's grace. We present these silks, that they may be enjoyed. We drum and dance for you, thus honoring your spirit. Rich and strong, fragrant vapor; we universally present fragrant offerings.

Pouring is fitting; presenting is timely. The people offer recompense; the numinous accepts it and is at peace. Sending off the Spirit, 《Joyful Peace》: offerings are numerous; the numinous heart is delighted. Surpassing the ordinary, they return; the multitude escorts like clouds. What is their turning? Much millet, much early rice. What is their auspicious blessing? Not failing in their proper order.

Blowing and exhaling with a murmur, brushing and stirring fragrant vapor. All openings act together, secretly operating the transforming balance. Grace is great and achievement abundant; we recompense the spirit in reverence. Fine gifts fill the boxes; toward all things there is forbearance. Pouring the libation, 《Harmonious Peace》: the sacrificial goblet is displayed; clear libation fills it. Fragrant and rich; aromatic scent achieves mutual communion.

The bright spirit comes; it savors our refined intent. Through tens of thousands of sacrifices, things are luxuriant and teeming. Girdle jades tinkling clear; embroidered robes and ceremonial skirts flow gracefully. We receive the spirit without slackening and obtain fine approval. The sage emperor commands sacrifice; we dare not be irreverent. All you who hold office, be cautious and harmonious. 明靈在天,式顧庶察。 澤潤以時,永拂荒劄。 酌獻,亞、終獻,《雍安》寅恭我神,惟上之使。 俾成康年,民徯休祉。 折俎既登,酒既盈。 匪薦是專,配以明誠。
The bright spirit is in Heaven, looking down and broadly observing. Grace moistens in season, forever brushing away drought and blight. Pouring the libation; second and final offerings, 《Harmonious Peace》: reverently respectful to our spirit, Heaven's emissary. May abundant years be completed; the people await rest and blessing. Solemn is the sacrificial palace; thus we examine our rites. In the west are jars; in the east is washing. Thus cleansing and rinsing, we present the sweet wine. Where is the spirit? Not far, all near. Presenting silks, 《Graceful Peace》: pouring and hidden, stirring its yin majesty. Assisting us to completion, how could we not know!

Our silks are displayed; our station holds the jade tablet. Is it only that they are displayed? We present them thereby. We receive it upon our breasts; come to feast, come to honor. How could it be enjoyed alone; it is for those farmers. Unified sincerity and communion abundant; numerous and numerous.

Entrusting oneself with the orphaned; truly only a friend unto death. Nurturing and soothing, raising him; like father, like mother. Secretly entrusted to Han; able to raise his successor. Exalted temple thereby presented; virtue expansive, recompense thick. Pouring the libation at Duke Yinglue position, 《Completion Peace》: establishing the orphan indeed difficult; dying also not easy. Righteousness lightening one body; opening first the Zhao succession.

Ascending and descending above and below; altar fire bright.

Exhaling clouds, inhaling qi; receiving sacrifice in sunlight.

The spirit's turning carriage is bound by five clouds.
