In the sixth month of the thirteenth year of Daye of Sui, Saturn stood in excess and passed through the Shen lodge. The Shen lodge is the asterism of Tang. Li Chunfeng said, "Saturn presides over good fortune; when it occupies a place where it should not be, the realm corresponding to the lodge it inhabits will prosper."

In the third month of the second year of Yining, on bingwu, Mars entered the Eastern Well lodge. The prognostication reads, "Distress will befall the sovereign."

In the third month of the third year of Zhenguan, on dingchou, Jupiter turned retrograde and entered the Di lodge. The prognostication reads, "The sovereign will overbuild his palaces and halls." Another reading says, "Famine." In the fifth month of the fifth year, on gengshen, Saturn transited Key and Closure. The omen betokens ministers who serve as the sovereign's inner voice. In the fourth month of the ninth year, on bingwu, Mars transited the Chariot Canopy. In the fourth month of the tenth year, on guiyou, it transited the same asterism again. The prognostication reads, "Mars presides over ritual propriety; when ritual fails, punishment follows. The Chariot Canopy represents the inner palace." In the second month of the eleventh year, on guiwei, Mars entered the Celestial Coach and Ghost lodge. The prognostication reads, "Traitors lurk at the sovereign's side." In the sixth month of the twelfth year, on xinmao, Mars entered the Eastern Well lodge. The prognostication reads, "Drought." In the fifth month of the thirteenth year, on yisi, it transited the Right Law Enforcer. In the sixth month, Venus transited the northern axle of the Eastern Well. The Eastern Well is the asterism of the capital region. In the eleventh month of the fourteenth year, on renwu, the moon entered the Supreme Palace Enclosure. The prognostication reads, "The sovereign will be unsettled." In the second month of the fifteenth year, Mars turned retrograde and transited the Eastern Prime Minister star of the Supreme Palace Enclosure. In the fifth month of the sixteenth year, Venus transited the left thigh of the Net asterism; the Net represents frontier commanders. In the sixth month, on wuxu, it was visible in daylight. In the ninth month, on jiwei, Mars transited the Western General star of the Supreme Palace Enclosure. In the tenth month, on bingxu, it entered the Supreme Palace Enclosure and transited the Left Law Enforcer. In the second month of the seventeenth year, it transited Key and Closure. In the third month, on dingsi, it stationed at the Fore Star of the Heart asterism. On guiyou, it turned retrograde and transited Hook and Lock. Mars customarily enters the Supreme Palace Enclosure in the tenth month, is held there, and then emerges; whichever star it stations at or transits marks the man the Son of Heaven will punish. Key and Closure stand for the sovereign's inner counselors; Hook and Lock govern the opening and closing of Heaven's will — all are symbols of high ministers. In the eleventh month of the eighteenth year, on yiwei, the moon occulted Hook and Lock. In the seventh month of the nineteenth year, on renwu, Venus entered the Supreme Palace Enclosure; that same night the moon occulted the Southern Dipper, and Venus then transited the Left Law Enforcer, its brilliance extending between the Winnowing Basket and the Dipper. Han Ford is the territory of Goguryeo. Venus is the star of warfare and also a star of punishment. In the seventh month of the twentieth year, on dingwei, Jupiter stationed at the Eastern Wall. The prognostication reads, "The five grains will suffer damage from water." In the fourth month of the twenty-first year, on wuyin, the moon transited Mars. The prognostication reads, "An eminent minister will die." In the twelfth month, on dingchou, a lunar eclipse occurred at the Hairy Head lodge. The prognostication reads, "The Son of Heaven will defeat the Xiongnu." In the fifth month of the twenty-second year, on dinghai, it transited the Right Law Enforcer. In the seventh month, Venus was visible in daylight. On yisi, Saturn stationed at the Eastern Well. The prognostication reads, "Drought." In the second month of the first year of Yonghui, on jichou, Mars transited the Eastern Well. The prognostication reads, "Drought." In the fourth month, on jisi, the moon transited the Five Feudal Lords, and Mars transited the Celestial Coach and Ghost. The prognostication reads, "The feudal lords will meet with misfortune." In the fifth month, on jiwei, Venus was visible in daylight. In the sixth month of the second year, on jichou, Venus entered the Supreme Palace Enclosure and transited the Right Law Enforcer. In the ninth month, on jiawu, it transited the Fore Star of the Heart asterism. In the twelfth month, on yiwei, Venus was visible in daylight. In the sixth month of the first year of Longshuo, on xinsi, Venus was visible in daylight and crossed the meridian. In the ninth month, on guimao, it transited the Left Law Enforcer. In the seventh month of the second year, on jichou, Mars stationed at the Feathered Forest; the Feathered Forest represents the imperial guard. In the first month of the third year, on jimao, it transited the Heavenly Street. The prognostication reads, "When government is obstructed, treachery emerges." In the sixth month, on yiyou, Venus entered the Eastern Well. The prognostication reads, "The sovereign will lose good government, and great ministers will be executed."

In the seventh month, on renshen, Mars entered the Eastern Well. The prognostication reads, "Drought." On bingshen, the moon transited Mars. The prognostication reads, "A person of rank will die." In the twelfth month, on bingzi, Mars entered the Supreme Palace Enclosure. In the fourth month of the second year, on wuchen, it transited the same asterism again. The Supreme Palace Enclosure is the asterism of generals and ministers. In the sixth month of the fifth year, on renyin, Venus entered the Eastern Well.

In the first month of the second year of Shangyuan, on jiayin, Mars transited the Room lodge. The prognostication reads, "The sovereign will be troubled." Another reading says, "There will be mourning." In the first month of the second year, on dingmao, Venus transited the Lead Ox. The prognostication reads, "The general will meet with misfortune."

In the eighth month of the second year of Yifeng, on xinhai, Venus transited the Left Horn of the Chariot Canopy. The Left Horn represents the eminent minister. In the tenth month of the third year, on wuyin, Mars transited Hook and Lock. In the fourth month of the fourth year, on wuwu, it entered the Feathered Forest. The prognostication reads, "The army will be troubled."

In the seventh month of the first year of Tiaolu, on xinsi, it entered the Heavenly Granary.

In the fifth month of the first year of Yonglong, on guiwei, it transited the Celestial Coach and Ghost. On dingyou, Venus was visible in daylight and crossed the meridian. This is called yin overpowering yang; yang is the way of the sovereign.

In the fifth month of the first year of Yongchun, on dingsi, Mercury transited the Chariot Canopy. In the ninth month, on gengxu, Mars entered the Celestial Coach and Ghost and transited the Mass Star. In the eleventh month, on yiwei, it transited the Celestial Coach and Ghost again. Departing and then returning — this is called "gou si."

In the fourth month of the first year of Chuigong, on guiwei, Mercury transited the northern axle of the Eastern Well. Mercury represents the Minister of Justice; the Eastern Well represents law and ordinances — when they stray from their proper course, they transgress against one another. In the twelfth month, on wuzi, the moon occulted the Great Star of the Chariot Canopy. In the third month of the second year, on bingchen, it transited the same star again.

In the eleventh month of the first year of Wansui Tongtian, on yichou, Jupiter transited the Director of Anomalies. The prognostication reads, "Floods and droughts will come at the wrong seasons."

In the fifth month of the first year of Shengli, on gengwu, Venus transited the Heavenly Pass. The Heavenly Pass presides over frontier affairs. In the second year, Mars entered the Celestial Coach and Ghost. In the third month of the third year, on xinhai, Jupiter transited the Left Law Enforcer.

長安二年熒惑犯五諸侯。 渾儀監尚獻甫奏； 「臣命在金，五諸侯太史之位，火克金，臣將死矣。」 武后曰：「朕為卿禳之，以獻甫為水衡都尉，水生金，又去太史之位，卿無憂矣。」 是秋，獻甫卒。 四年，熒惑入月，鎮星犯天關。
In the second year of Chang'an, Mars transited the Five Feudal Lords. Director of the Armillary Sphere Shang Xianfu memorialized the throne, "My fate lies in metal; the Five Feudal Lords are the station of the Grand Astrologer — fire overcomes metal, and I am about to die." Empress Wu said, "I will perform exorcism rites for you. I appoint Xianfu Director of the Water Balance — water generates metal, and this removes you from the Grand Astrologer's station — you need not worry." That autumn, Xianfu died. In the fourth year, Mars entered the moon, and Saturn transited the Heavenly Pass.

In the intercalary first month of the second year, on dingmao, the moon occulted the Rear Star of the Chariot Canopy. In the ninth month, on renzi, Mars transited the Left Law Enforcer. On jisi, the moon transited the Rear Star of the Chariot Canopy. In the eleventh month, on xinhai, it transited the Hairy Head; the prognostication reads, "The barbarian king will die." On wuwu, Mars entered the Di lodge. In the twelfth month, on dingyou, it transited the Heavenly River; the prognostication reads, "Drought." In the fifth month of the third year, on wuxu, Venus entered the Celestial Coach and Ghost. The prognostication reads, "Great ministers will be executed."

In the third month of the eighth year, on gengwu, it transited the northern axle of the Eastern Well. In the fifth month, on jiazi, it transited the Chariot Canopy. In the eleventh month of the eleventh year, on dingmao, Jupiter transited the Advancement of Worthies. In the tenth month of the fourteenth year, on jiayin, Venus was visible in daylight. In the sixth month of the twenty-fifth year, on renxu, Mars transited the Room lodge. In the seventh month of the twenty-seventh year, on xinchou, it transited the Southern Dipper. The prognostication reads, "The eminent minister will meet with misfortune."

In the eighth month, on jiyou, Venus transited the Advancement of Worthies. In the twelfth month, on guiwei, Jupiter occulted the Room lodge. The prognostication reads, "Generals and ministers will be troubled." In the jianzi month of the third year, on guisi, the moon occulted the Hairy Head and emerged north of it. In the eighth month, on dingmao, it again occulted the Hairy Head.

In the ninth month of the second year of Taihe, Jupiter, Mars, and Saturn gathered at the Seven Stars. In the fourth month of the third year, on renshen, Jupiter transited Saturn. The prognostication reads, "Famine." In the fifth month of the fourth year, on bingwu, Jupiter and Venus conjoined at the Eastern Well. In the first month of the sixth year, Venus and Mars conjoined at the Feathered Forest. In the tenth month, Venus, Mars, and Saturn gathered at the Chariot Shaft. In the seventh month of the eighth year, on gengyin, Venus and Mars conjoined and transited one another; by calendrical reckoning they lay in the Wings, near the Supreme Palace Enclosure. The prognostication reads, "Warfare will arise."

In the sixth month of the third year of Kaicheng, on dinghai, Venus transited Mars at the Extended Net. The prognostication reads, "There will be mourning." In the first month of the fourth year, on dingsi, Mars, Venus, and Mercury gathered at the Southern Dipper; by calendrical reckoning they lay in the Yan territorial allotment. The prognostication reads, "Internal and external warfare and mourning; princes and dukes will be newly installed." In winter, Jupiter and Mars both turned retrograde and lost color, conjoining at the Eastern Well. This is the capital-region territorial allotment.

During the Xiantong reign, Mars, Saturn, Venus, and Mercury gathered at the Net and Hairy Head, in the Zhao and Wei territorial allotments. An edict ordered Wang Jingchong of Zhenzhou to don the imperial ceremonial robes and cap, and the military prefecture to address him as a subject in order to avert the omen.
