In 719, the seventh year of Kaiyuan, the Hexi military commissioner also took the frontier commissioner-general post. The Jiannan branch disbursement, garrison farm, disposal, and military frontier commissioner was elevated to full military commissioner, also serving as Kunming Army commissioner and commanding twenty-five prefectures—Yi, Peng, Shu, Han, Mei, Mian, Zi, Sui, Qiong, Jian, Rong, Ling, Jia, Pu, Zi, Xi, Li, Rong, Wei, Mao, Jian, Long, Ya, Lu, and He—from his seat at Yi Prefecture.

In 742, the first year of Tianbao, the Jiannan military commissioner gained jurisdiction over Ba Prefecture.

A Xingping military commissioner was appointed, commanding four commanderies—Shangluo, Ankang, Wudang, and Fangling—from his seat at Shangluo.

西使 使 西西 使使
A defense and garrison commissioner for the Shannan West Circuit was created. A Kuizhou defense and garrison commissioner was established. The Hexi military commissioner also took charge of the Longyou Hexi North Route, but the arrangement was soon discontinued. The grand administrator of Tianshui Commandery also served as defense and garrison commissioner and commissioner of Dazhen Pass.

The Kuizhou defense commissioner was elevated to Kuixia military commissioner.

Anxi was renamed Zhenxi. The Jiannan military commissioner became the West Chuan military commissioner, also serving as Chengdu magistrate, with Guo Prefecture added to his command. Twelve prefectures—Zi, Sui, Mian, Jian, Long, Lang, Pu, Ling, Lu, Rong, Zi, and Jian—were transferred to the East Chuan military commissioner.

In 758, the first year of Qianyuan, the Kuixia military commissioner was abolished.

Five prefectures—Kui, Xia, Zhong, Gui, and Wan—were transferred to Kuizhou jurisdiction.

In 760, the first year of Shangyuan, the Li–Lang–Xi chief training commissioner was abolished. The Jingnan military commissioner also served as Jiangling magistrate.

Jurisdiction over Li, Lang, Zhong, and Xia prefectures was restored to the Jingnan military commissioner.

The defense and observation commissioner for the four prefectures inside and outside Wuguan Pass was abolished.
