In the thirteenth year, on the dingmao new moon of the first month of spring, Tan Prefecture fell; Song pacification commissioner Li Fei burned his whole household and perished. Ala Haiya sent officials out separately to win over those not yet submitted; within ten days Hunan prefectures and districts surrendered one after another, yielding one superior prefecture, six prefectures, two armies, forty counties, 561,112 households, and 1,537,740 persons. Bayan's army halted at Jiaxing Prefecture, and pacification commissioner Liu Hanjie surrendered the city. Dong Wenbing's army halted at Zhapu; Song controller Liu Ying surrendered with his command. On xinwei day Dong Wenbing's army reached Haiyan; county magistrate Wang Yuxian, Ganpu garrison controller Hu Quan, and Fujian Circuit infantry and cavalry commander Shen Shilong all surrendered. On renshen day the General Inspectorate Office was renamed the Communications Bureau, with Uryangqadai and others placed in charge. Exchange treasuries were set up in the circuits, eleven in all, to manage market exchange of currency, silks, and other goods. An edict ordered the Dadu circuit general administration that in government hire and government purchase, powerful families and common people were to share levies equally. On guiyou day Song grand councilor Chen Yizhong sent Director of the Armory Works Liu Tingrui with the Song sovereign's vassalage memorial to the army front for consultation, and also sent Yizhong's letter to Bayan; Bayan answered in writing. On yihai day an edict summoned Sichuan commissioner Zhao Dingying to court. Hunter households in Dadu and other circuits were relocated to garrison east of Great Hong Mountain; seal keeper Dong Wenzhong asked that the poor and sick be exempted from relocation, and the request was granted. Song again sent investigating censor Liu Bi with the Song sovereign's vassalage memorial to the army front and a letter to Bayan pleading for the altars and the people. On bingzi day officers and soldiers under Qorudai who had campaigned against Jiandu were rewarded with silver, paper currency, and brocade robes. On dingchou day Song sent commander-in-chief Hong Mo with letters from Chen Yizhong, Wu Jian, and others, asking to wait until the clan elder, Prince of Fu, arrived and then come together to the army front. On wuyin day Bayan marched out of Jiaxing Prefecture, leaving wanhu Huduhu and qianhu Wang Tulincha to garrison it. Liu Hanjie remained pacification commissioner of the prefecture. On xinsi day the Yunnan branch secretariat was ordered to supply bows and arrows to the Jiandu garrison army. The army halted at Chongde County; Song sent Vice Minister Liu Tingrui and commander-in-chief Hong Mo to welcome it. Song Du of the grand marshal's headquarters at the march reported, "Although Longxing, Jianchang, Fuzhou, and other Jiangxi prefectures have submitted, Fujian and Guangdong prefectures still resist with arms; we beg for additional troops to advance and subdue them." An edict granted four thousand Xiang-Han troops for him to command. On renwu day the army halted at Chang'an garrison; Dong Wenbing came with troops to join. Song's Chen Yizhong, Wu Jian, and others broke the agreement and did not come. On guiwei day the army halted at Linping garrison. On jiashen day it halted at Gaoting Mountain; Alaghan came with troops to join. The Song sovereign sent his Baokang Army commissioner Yinpu and He Prefecture defense commissioner Jifu and others, bearing the dynastic jade seal and surrender memorial to the army front. The text read, "Great Song sovereign Zhao Xian, bowing one hundred times, presents this memorial to the Sage Emperor of Great Yuan, benevolent, clear, divine, and martial: Your subject earlier sent Vice Minister Liu Yue and remonstrance officer Hong Leizhen with a memorial to the court, humbly expressing our sincerity, trusting it has reached Your sacred ear. Your subject is young and unfledged, his house beset by troubles; the power-holder Jia Sidao broke the alliance and misled the state, and your subject could not know in time. When troops were raised to demand accountability, the altars were imperiled and the people deserved pity. Your subject and the retired emperor feared daily; it was not that we did not wish to move the capital to preserve both sides — truly the lives of millions rested on your subject. Now that Heaven's mandate has found its place, whither should your subject go? Only the heirloom seal of our line — we dare not keep it — we obey the retired emperor's command, humbling ourselves, stripping the imperial title, and with the Two Zhes, Fujian, Jiangdong and Jiangxi, Hunan and Hubei, the Two Guangs, and Sichuan with whatever prefectures and districts remain, we offer all to the sacred court, praying for mercy for altars and people. We pray Your sacred compassion will pity us: the Grand Empress Dowager is aged and has lain ill these many years; your subject stands alone in grief — the feeling deserves compassion. We cannot bear that our Zhao ancestors' three hundred years of altars should suddenly perish; grant measured disposition and preserve us. The regenerating virtue of the Great Yuan Emperor — then Zhao descendants will rely on it for generations and dare not forget. Your subject is overcome with gratitude toward Heaven and longing toward the Sage — urgent and trembling beyond measure. Bayan, having received the surrender memorial and jade seal, again sent Nangadai with Zhao Yinpu, Jia Yujing, and others back to Lin'an to summon the grand councilors to discuss surrender. On yiyou day the army halted fifteen li north of Lin'an; Nangadai and Hong Mo came with zongguan Yin Jun to report that Song's Chen Yizhong, Zhang Shijie, Su Liuyi, and Liu Shiyong had seized Princes Yi and Guang, fled out Jiahui Gate, and crossed the Zhe River to escape; only the Grand Empress Dowager and the reigning sovereign remained in the palace. Bayan urgently instructed Alaghan, Dong Wenbing, and Fan Wenhu to lead the armies first to seize Qiantang Crossing, and sent five thousand picked troops to pursue Chen Yizhong and others; they crossed the Zhe River but could not overtake them and returned. On bingxu day Bayan ordered that soldiers were forbidden to enter the city; violators would be punished by military law. Lu Wenhuan was sent with a yellow proclamation to reassure military and civilians inside and outside Lin'an, ordering them to remain settled as before. At the time Song Three Offices guard soldiers killed people in broad daylight; Zhang Shijie's personal troops were especially overbearing in the lanes, and common people seized the moment to rob and kill. When the order went out, the people were greatly pleased. Bayan also sent pacification commissioner Cheng Pengfei, planning commissioner Sun Dingheng, Nangadai, and Hong Junxiang into the palace to reassure Grand Empress Dowager Xie. On dinghai day Sayid Ajall of the Yunnan branch secretariat presented the revised designations of Yunnan circuits. He also said Yunnan's trade differed from the central provinces and that paper currency was truly unfamiliar there; it would be better to let exchange notes and cowrie shells circulate publicly and privately for the people's convenience. All was approved. On wuzi day Central Secretariat officials reported, "Wang Xiaozhong and others, sentenced for crime to gather precious jade at Badashan to redeem themselves, passed through Shazhou and encountered the Qocho rebellion; Xiaozhong and others broke free and returned; they are ordered to farm at Guazhou, Shazhou, and other places." The report was approved. Daming Circuit darughachi Xiao Qianbu was executed for corruption after conviction, and his household goods were confiscated. The Song sovereign's grandmother, Empress Dowager Xie, sent her grand councilor Wu Jian, Wen Tianxiang, privy council chief secretary Xie Tang, pacification commissioner Jia Yujing, and chief eunuch Deng Weishan to meet Bayan at Mingyin Monastery. Bayan saw Wen Tianxiang's conduct was irregular and suspected other intentions; he therefore ordered wanhu Mangudai and pacification commissioner Sudu to detain him in the army. Moreover, because their surrender memorial did not style themselves subjects and still used the Song designation, he sent Cheng Pengfei and Hong Junxiang with envoy Jia Yujing to go again and have it changed. On jichou day the army halted at Huzhou Prefecture. Qianhu Nangadai and secretariat clerk Wang You were sent with the dynastic jade seal to court. An edict ordered Goryeo to send sons of officials holding office as hostages. Central Secretariat officials reported, "Old registers of taxed households already had fixed quotas; in the seventh year of Zhiyuan newly canvassed coordinated and merged households numbered 205,180 in all." An edict reduced this year's silk levy by half. On gengyin day Bayan raised the grand general's banners and drums and led the left and right wing wanhu to inspect Lin'an city and view the tide on the Zhe River; Song imperial clansmen and grand ministers then came to audience in succession, and at evening he returned to Huzhou Prefecture. On xinmao day Zhang Hongfan, Meng Qi, and Cheng Pengfei brought the revised Song sovereign's subject-style surrender memorial to the army front. On jiawu day Pinggu County of Ji Prefecture was restored. Circuit transport commissions were established in each circuit, and officials governing the people were instructed by edict; five hundred troops under Wengjiladai Chouhan garrisoned Hada City, six hundred under Bujidai were moved to garrison Jiandu, and those of Uryantu and Tanghu previously at Jiandu were all sent back to their wings. The Jizhou canal was dug. Zhending zongguan Shiban was made right vice director of the Central Secretariat.

In the second month, on dingyou day, an edict ordered Liu Jie and Cheng Dehui to summon Huai-xi commissioner Xia Gui. On jihai day Linjiang Army was taken. On gengzi day Song sovereign Zhao Xian led civil and military officials to Xiangxi Hall, faced the court, and presented a memorial begging to serve as a vassal assistant; he sent Right Grand Councilor and concurrent Privy Council chief secretary Jia Yujing, Privy Council chief secretary Xie Tang, Hanlin academician and concurrent privy council associate Jia Xuanweng, and Hanlin academician and concurrent privy council associate Liu Bi to present the memorial. The Song sovereign's grandmother, the Grand Empress Dowager, also presented a memorial and letter. That day Song civil and military offices all left Lin'an Prefecture, went to the mobile Central Secretariat, and came to audience each in his office. The branch secretariat, acting on commission, made Lin'an the Two Zhe Grand Commandery; commanders Mangudai and Fan Wenhu entered the city to administer affairs. On xinchou day Bayan ordered Zhang Hui, Alaghan, Dong Wenbing, and left and right secretariat officials Shi Tianlin and Yang Hui and others to enter the city, take counts of military and civilian money and grain, inspect storehouses, collect patent documents, seals, and tallies of the hundred offices, abolish all Song government offices, and disband the palace guard and forbidden armies. Song sovereign Zhao Xian sent his right grand councilor Jia Yujing and others as supplication envoys to court to beg for orders; the right grand councilor ordered Wu Jian and Wen Tianxiang to go together. Bayan and others, right chancellor of the mobile Central Secretariat, because Song sovereign Zhao Xian had submitted the entire state, presented a memorial of congratulation: the Two Zhe Circuit yielded eight superior prefectures, six prefectures, one army, eighty-one counties, 2,983,672 households, and 5,692,650 persons. On dingwei day an edict instructed officials, gentry, military, and civilians of the newly submitted prefectures, districts, and counties of Lin'an, saying:

Recently the right chancellor of the mobile Central Secretariat Bayan sent envoys to report that the Song empress dowager, young sovereign, and all ministers and officials on the eighteenth day of the first month presented the seal and cord and submitted a surrender memorial. We consider that from antiquity surrendered kings have always had the rite of court audience; We have dispatched envoys specially to welcome them. Each of you should keep to your occupation; do not rashly give rise to suspicion and fear. All crimes committed before submission are entirely pardoned; public and private arrears may not be collected. Those who resisted the imperial army and those who fled and gathered in bands are also pardoned. Officials of the hundred offices, princely residences, the Three Academies, temples, directorates, the secret archive, the history office, and the forbidden guard offices should each dwell in peace. In mountains, forests, rivers, and marshes everywhere, apart from great timber and fruit and flowers, remaining goods are temporarily exempt from tax. Books of the Secretariat, ritual vessels, musical instruments, ceremonial robes, musicians, insignia, and guard units of the Court of Imperial Sacrifices, genealogical registers of the Imperial Clan Court, astronomical and geographical maps and registers, all classical texts and precedents, and household registers are all to be gathered and collected. Descendants of sages of former ages, eminent Confucians, physicians, monks, Daoists, diviners, those versed in astronomy and calendrics, and reclusive worthies of mountains and forests — local offices in each place are to report their names. Famous mountains and great rivers, temples and shrines, and traces of famous men of former ages may not be demolished. Widowers, widows, orphans, and the solitary who cannot support themselves are to receive measured relief.

Bayan thereupon sent Song palace eunuch Wang Ye into the palace to collect Song state robes and caps, jade scepters and disks, seals and tallies, palace registers, treasures, carriages, palanquins, insignia, banners, and other objects. On wushen day the Jiangdong and Jiangxi Pacification Commission was established at Lin'an; Minister of Revenue Mai Gui and Director of the Imperial Library Jiao Youzhi were made pacification commissioners, Vice Minister of Personnel Yang Jukuan was made associate pacification commissioner, and all concurrently served as prefect of Lin'an. On yimao day an edict instructed Huaidong commissioner Li Tingzhi, Huai-xi commissioner Xia Gui, and officials, military, and civilians of the prefectures, armies, counties, and garrisons under their jurisdiction. On dingsi day Jiao Youzhi was ordered to gather forbidden books and registers of the Song Secretariat. On wuwu day the former plowing rite was performed at the eastern suburb. Huai-xi commissioner Xia Gui submitted the Huai-xi prefectures; only Zhenchao Army rebelled again; Gui sent envoys to summon it, and garrison commander Hong Fu killed the envoy; Gui came in person beneath the walls, and Fu then surrendered; Aju executed him in the army. The Huai-xi Circuit yielded two superior prefectures, six prefectures, four armies, thirty-four counties, 513,827 households, and 1,021,349 persons. On gengshen day Bayan was summoned to bring the Song ruler and ministers to court. On xinyou day the imperial carriage proceeded to Shangdu. A precept observance assembly was held at Kaiyuan Monastery in Shunde Prefecture. Bayan sent Bober and Zhou Qing to summon Pu Shougen and Shousheng, brothers of Quanzhou. On jiazi day Dong Wenbing and Sudu sent Song court literati Liu Baoran and Three Academies students to the capital; Imperial University student Xu Yingbiao and his father and three sons together drowned themselves in a well. The Emperor, having pacified Song, summoned the Song generals and asked, "Why did you surrender so easily?" They replied, "Song had a powerful minister, Jia Sidao, who monopolized state power; he always treated literati generously but alone slighted military officers. We long nursed resentment, our hearts estranged and our strength undone — that is why we offered submission at the first wind." The Emperor ordered Dong Wenzhong to reply, "Even if Sidao truly slighted you all, that is only Sidao's single fault — and what wrong did your sovereign do you? If it is as you say, then Sidao's slighting you was indeed fitting."

The request was approved. Song Prince of Fu Zhao Yourui came from eastern Zhe to Bayan's camp. Because Dusong Pass commander Zhang Ru had killed envoy Lian Xixian, he was beheaded and his property was confiscated. On yihai day Bayan and his party left Lin'an. On dingchou day Atahai, Alaghan, and Dong Wenbing went to the Song palace and pressed Zhao Shi and the empress dowager to come to audience. Langzhong Meng Qi read the edict aloud; at the words "spared the halter and the leading sheep," Empress Dowager Quan wept and told Zhao Shi, "The Son of Heaven's mercy has spared your life; you should bow toward the palace in thanks." After Zhao Shi bowed, mother and son left the palace in sedan chairs; only Grand Empress Dowager Xie stayed behind, ill.
