On the second day of the eighth month, the Prince of Jin hunted at Tula. Teshi secretly sent Walaosi to report, saying, "I, together with Hasan, Yesen Temür, and Shitu'er, have settled our plot. When the affair succeeds, we shall install Your Highness as emperor." He also ordered Walaosi to inform Dilqash of the matter, saying further, "You and Masihu are to know of this — do not let Xumaijie hear of it." Thereupon the prince ordered Walaosi imprisoned and dispatched Bielie Mishi and others to Shangdu to report the treasonous plot; they had not yet arrived. On guihai day Emperor Yingzong returned south and halted at Nancha. That evening, Teshi and others falsely executed Baizhu, and Emperor Yingzong was then assassinated in the tent-palace. Emperor Sechen graciously viewed his legitimate grandson, eldest son of Emperor Yuzong, my merciful grandfather Gammala — I was enfeoffed Prince of Jin, put in charge of Chinggis Khan's four great ordos, and entrusted with troops and horses and all Dadu territory. Following Emperor Sechen's holy edict, I behaved with care and caution; in whatever business of armies, horses, and people, I maintained the correct path, and for several years the common people attained peaceful livelihoods. Later, Emperor Wanze Du instructed me to inherit the succession and entrusted me in the great ordo. Having been entrusted, I guarded the great encampment and supported my two elder brothers Emperors Qutuqtu and Buyan Toq, and my nephew Emperor Shidebala. Before the emperors of successive reigns, I harbored no divergent intent and plotted for no rank; according to my station I exerted myself for the state; all the princes, elder and younger brothers, and all the common people know this as well. Now that my nephew the emperor has ascended to Heaven, as the princes and great ministers to the south, military officers, princely sons-in-law, officials, and Dadu commoners deliberated: the great succession ought not long remain vacant; only I am of Emperor Sechen's legitimate line, Emperor Yuzong's eldest grandson, and by precedent fit to sit in the great succession; no other brothers contest for installation; thus, amid the imperial demise, before order could be restored, men's hearts are hard to fathom; it is fitting to appease the common people and settle the hearts of all under Heaven; early installation was proposed here; following the hearts of the multitude, on the fourth day of the ninth month, in Chinggis Khan's great ordo, I took my seat in the great succession. That the common people may be at ease, an amnesty edict is issued.

Fifth month, on dinghai day surveillance censors Dong Pengnan, Liu Qian, Bian Si, Mu Wan, and Shaban memorialized regarding calamities and portents: "Grand councillor Naimantai, Director of the Palace Buildings office commissioner Tiemur Buqa, and household steward Tuman Da'er allied with the rebels and failed in ministerial integrity; the Director of Ceremonial was not careful in guarding the temples; the Prince of Liao killed a kinsman without authorization; Buqa and Jieli used false orders to disrupt the law — all were leniently spared; this is a serious failure of punishment; we request their crimes be fixed to dispel Heaven's changes." Not granted. On jichou day the Emperor instructed Daolisha: "Since We acceded to the throne, not a single person has been able to uphold established law and speak to Us about it. To know yet not speak is disloyalty, and moreover traps people in guilt. From this forward, whatever you know, you should all report it, so that We clearly know the law and dare not indulge Ourselves. Not Ourselves alone — if all affairs under Heaven are carried out by observing the law, then all will be well governed; otherwise the realm will suffer distress." He further said: "In all matters, guarding against them when small is easy; remedying them when great is hard — you should clearly proclaim Our words to the multitude, so they know what to heed." On renchen day censorate officials Tuhulu and Niuze, speaking for the censors, said: "Calamities and portents have repeatedly appeared; the chancellor should yield his position to respond to Heaven's changes — whether this is suitable rests with Your sacred judgment. As for us subjects, serving as Your Majesty's eyes and ears, we have been unable to investigate those who practiced favoritism and violated the law; negligent in office, we should first step aside to yield place to the worthy and capable." The Emperor said: "What the censors say — the fault lies with Us; why need you all be so hasty!" Tuhulu further said: "Your subject is already old and ill, fearing he may harm great affairs — I beg to retire first." Thereupon central secretariat officials Uburdula, Zhang Gui, and Yang Tingyu all submitted memorials requesting dismissal. Chancellors Xumaijie and Daolisha said: "Recently with calamities and portents, Your Majesty, concerned for the realm, turned inward in self-reproach, reverently following our forebears' holy instruction, cultivating virtue and careful conduct, directing us ministers each to diligently fulfill our duties — the personally written edict reached Dadu, and the officials left in charge all pleaded guilty and impeached themselves. We who serve as left and right chancellors are low in talent and dull in understanding; bearing the great charge of governing the state, we have offered no assistance, thereby bringing on calamity — the guilt lies with us; we are the ones who should be dismissed and removed; what guilt have the other ministers?" The Emperor said: "If you all withdraw and leave, with whom shall We deliberate on the state's great affairs? You should each persuade one another to encourage the fulfillment of your duties."
