Third year, spring, first month, on bingwu new moon, Eastern Campaign branch secretariat left grand councillor and King of Koryo Wang Zhang dispatched envoys presenting tribute goods to congratulate the New Year's day. Bozhou pacification commissioner Yang Yanlibuhua summoned and instructed the barbarian chieftain Li Pingqing and others to submit. On wushen day Yuanjiang Route director-general Pushuang rebelled; the Yunnan Branch Secretariat was ordered to summon and capture him. Princes Xiechetu and Huanghuo Temür came to court; gold, silver, notes, and silks were granted in varying amounts. On renzi day Prince Kanchibuhua was enfeoffed Prince of Weishun and stationed at Huguang; Mainu was enfeoffed Prince of Xuanjing and stationed at Yidu; each was granted 3,000 ingots of notes. Official fields in Shandong and Huguang were granted to the people for cultivation and reclamation — 3 qing per person — and cattle and implements were still provided. Prince Busiyin dispatched envoys presenting western horses. Former Hanlin academician Wu Cheng was summoned but did not accept appointment. The Directorate of Waterways and State Farms was established at Songjiang to manage Jiangnan river channels and waterworks. On jiwei day notes were granted to the troops and people under Prince of Wuping Tagusibuhua — 15 ingots per person. Prince of Xiangning Bala Temür was stationed to guard the Ulus tribe. On xinyou day Venus encroached upon Outer Screen. On guihai day Duolienie was enfeoffed Duke of State; privy council director Satemishi was made Lingbei branch secretariat grand councillor. On wuchen day Burma fell into disorder; its ruler Daliyabo dispatched envoys requesting troops and presented trained elephants and tribute goods. Ruan Kou of Annam raided Siming Route; the Huguang Branch Secretariat was ordered to supervise troops in preparing defenses. Subordinate counties of Dadu Route suffered famine; 60,000 shi of grain were issued for relief. Enzhou suffered flooding; grain was issued for relief.

Second month, on dingchou day rewards were offered for anyone who could first report treasonous plots or sorcerous bewitchment; a reward scale was established and proclaimed throughout the realm. On gengchen day 60,000 ingots of notes were granted to relieve impoverished Onggirad commoners under Prince of Lu Argasibuhua; Prince Lubin was made grand master of the imperial clan. On renwu day Xu Wenjie, native official of Quanming Prefecture in Guangxi, led various Yao in rebellion, raided Mingying Prefecture, and killed acting prefect Li Deqing and others; the Huguang Branch Secretariat was ordered to supervise troops in capturing them. Namatai was made privy council director. On jiashen day the imperial portraits of Taizu, Taizong, and Ruizong were sacrificed to at the Hanlin National History Academy. On dinghai day the Central Secretariat requested cessation of the Yao campaign; an edict directed Prince Ordoe'erhan and others to withdraw their armies, while garrison troops were to remain as before. On jichou day wine-brewing was forbidden in Bianliang Route. On jiawu day Zhending's Yuhua Palace was repaired. On yiwei day Buddhist rites to avert thunder were performed at Chongtian Gate. On bingshen day a spirit hall for Emperor Xianzong was built at Lushi Temple; the granted name was Great Heavenly Source Extended Sage Temple. An edict directed that the 《Scripture Treasury》 be written in gold in Western script. On jiaxu day Shuxiang Temple was built on Mount Wutai; 300 qing of fields were granted. Java dispatched envoys presenting tribute goods. On gengzi day Communications Court commissioner Chanai was made central secretariat grand councillor. On jiachen day the imperial carriage proceeded to Shangdu. Prince Yetegubuhua and central secretariat officials Uburdula, Chanai, Shanseng, Xu Shijing, and Duoduo were ordered to remain and guard. The Directorate of Palace Physicians was established, rank 5b, subordinate to the Heir Apparent's Household. Subordinate counties of Guide Prefecture suffered river breaches; the people were famished; 56,000 shi of grain were issued for relief. Hejian, Baoding, and Zhending circuits suffered famine; grain was issued for relief for 4 months. Jianchang Route suffered famine; 30,000 shi of grain were sold at reduced prices for relief. Third month, on yisi new moon, the Emperor blamed himself for the lack of rain, ordered review and judgment of serious prisoners, and dispatched envoys to sacrifice separately at the Five Sacred Peaks, Four Watercourses, famous mountains and great rivers, and temples and abbeys in the capital region. Annam's palace was invaded by Longzhou wanhu Zhao Xiongfei and others; they begged that the plundered goods be ordered returned; an edict directed Guangxi Circuit to dispatch officials to investigate. On bingwu day Saturn encroached upon Well Scepter Star. On dingwei day the hundred officials were ordered to assemble and deliberate on urgent affairs. Central secretariat officials and others requested reduction of guard soldiers, curbing of excessive rewards, cessation of construction and repair, defense against Yao raiders, and return of temple offices, yamens, and smelting affairs to the Central Secretariat — all were approved. On renzi day a comet was observed at the Directorate of Astronomy. On guichou day the barbarians of Eight Tribes Yannixia Cave submitted; they wished to deliver 2,500 bolts of cloth annually; barbarian officials were established to pacify them. On yimao day the people were again forbidden to weave gold-dragon patterned silks and cloths. On dingsi day Prince Shila was dispatched to guard the northern frontier. On wuwu day an edict pacified Burma and granted its ruler gold and silks. On jiazi day the Merit Affairs Commission was ordered to select 127 annual Buddhist rites for repair. On bingyin day Hanlin academician-director Alintemur and Xu Shijing completed translating the 《Imperial Instructions》; it was renamed the 《Grand Chart of Imperial Instructions》, and an edict directed that it be conferred upon the crown prince. National University students were examined. Monks were dispatched to perform Buddhist rites at Lintao, Fengxiang, Xingjier Zong Mountain, and other places. Princes Boluo Temür and Alaten were each granted 2,000 ingots of notes. On wuchen day Mars encroached upon Rampart Wall Formation, and Saturn encroached upon Well. On gengwu day Saturn, Venus, and Jupiter converged in Well. On xinwei day Ruan Fengzi of Quanzhou raised rebellion; he raided and seized walled cities; military and civilian officials were punished for failure to suppress him. Yongping, Weihui, Zhongshan, and Shunde circuits suffered famine; more than 66,000 ingots of notes were issued for relief. Ningxia, Fengyuan, and Jianchang circuits suffered famine; grain was issued for relief for 2 months. Dadu, Hejian, Baoding, Yongping, Jinan, and Changde circuits suffered famine; half their field rents were remitted.

Fourth month, on bingxu day Zhen'an Route director-general Cen Xiuguang was attacked by his younger brother Xiuren; he came to report it; the Huguang Branch Secretariat was ordered to investigate and settle the matter. On wuxu day Venus encroached upon Ghost. On renyin day Mars encroached upon Rampart Wall Formation. Rongmi Cave barbarian Tian Xianshiyong and others joined 12 cave barbarians in raiding Changyang County; the Huguang Branch Secretariat dispatched Nine Surnames chief official Peng Hudubuhua to summon them; Tian Xianshiyong and others of 5 caves submitted, and troops were dispatched against the remainder. 33 river dikes at Xiajin and Wucheng were repaired; corvée laborers numbered 17,500 men. Fifth month, on jiachen new moon, Prince Qiebie dispatched envoys presenting leopards. On yisi day 31 Buddhist rites to avert thunder were repaired. Gansu branch secretariat officials said, "At Chijin grain is stored, but supplying troops across the river is inconvenient because of the distance; we request that it again be moved to Quyou. This was approved. Shangdu's Furen Gate was repaired. Jing Prefecture suffered famine; wine-brewing was forbidden. Manufacture of Fujian's annual tribute sugar syrup was abolished. Because Western monks disturbed the people by using relay stations, this was forbidden. On jiayin day the Eight Hundred Wives barbarians of the southern circuit dispatched their son Zhao Santing to present tribute goods at court. On yimao day the Imperial Preceptor's elder brother Suonanzangbu was put in charge of the 3 Western circuits pacification commissions, was given a princess in marriage, and was granted a princely title. Princess Shouning was granted a seal; 100 qing of fields and 30,000 ingots of notes were still granted. On jiazi day the Central Secretariat reviewed the year's note receipts and disbursements and requested economizing to make up the shortfall; this was approved. Supervising censor impeached pacification commissioner Duorzhiban and academicians Li Talahi and Liu Shaozu as vulgar and incompetent. The Central Secretariat deliberated, "All three are sons and grandsons of meritorious ministers; there are no substantiated charges; we request that their posts be restored, and that the Censorate still be directed not to impeach on empty words. This was approved. On dingmao day Cen Shixing and Zhen'an Route's Cen Xiuwen joined mountain Liao and Jiao barbarians numbering more than 60,000 in raiding; the Huguang and Yunnan branch secretariats were ordered to summon and instruct them. Commander Uduman was dispatched to inscribe Western incantations on the cliff stones at Juyong Pass. On gengwu day Qizhu summoned and instructed the 5-cave Yao of Yongming County to submit. Four tribes of Jiamulong in Hexi submitted; Da'ermaban Zangbu was put in charge of the Buralmashuo tribe; Gonggeban was put in charge of the Gulungluo Wugong Yuanzong Lanzong Bu'erjian Shajiajian tribe; Suonanjian Zangbu was put in charge of the Lanzong Gubulabujili Xijilin Yimushi Weishi tribe; Duorzhibenla was put in charge of the Longdachilie Bali Aboludasi Adazang tribe. Xiong Prefecture suffered famine; Taiping and Xinghua subordinate counties suffered flooding — all were relieved. Luzhou, Yulin Prefecture, and Hongze garrison fields suffered drought; fiscal and official fields in subordinate counties of Yangzhou Route suffered flooding — all their rents were remitted. Sixth month, on guiyou new moon, Prince Qiebie was granted a seven-treasures girdle. Tuhatiemur was made Sichuan branch secretariat grand councillor; he requested to complete mourning for his mother; this was approved. On guiwei day Bozhou barbarian Li Ping'ai rebelled again; joining Xie Wuqiong he raided; pacification commissioner Yang Yanlibuhua summoned Ping'ai to come out and submit. Wuqiong did not submit; the Huguang Branch Secretariat was ordered to suppress him. On dinghai day Prince of Xiangning Bala Temür was ordered to go out and guard the territory of Ananda. On wuzi day Princes Toghto and others came to court; gold, silver, notes, and silks were granted in varying amounts. On yiwei day Prince of Liang Wangshan and Prince Cheche Tu were ordered to pacify the northern army; Wangshan was granted 5,000 ingots of notes and 200 bolts each of silks and cloths. On dingyou day the Daoist Wu Quanjie was dispatched to perform jiao rites at the 3 mountains of Longhu, Sanmao, and Gezao. On wuxu day envoys were dispatched to sacrifice to the salt-pond spirit of Jie Prefecture. Central secretariat officials said, "Recently prefectures and counties have suffered drought and locusts — this is because we could not harmonize and govern. Now we ought to be fearful and examine ourselves, exert ourselves in good government, and also hope that Your Majesty will respectfully and cautiously cultivate virtue and pity and succor the living people. The Emperor commended and approved it. 40,000 ingots of notes were issued to relieve Prince of Chang Bala Temür's following; Prince of Wu Pobi was granted 10,000 ingots of notes. On jihai day the daughter of the Emperor's elder sister Princess Shouning, Sadabala, was received into the central palace. Yao of Lisuo Source in Daozhou Route became bandits; Qizhu was ordered to supervise troops to capture them. Subordinate counties of Fengyuan and Gongchang suffered heavy rain and hail; Xia Prefecture had drought; subordinate counties of Dongping had locusts; subordinate counties of Datong had great flooding; smelting households at Laiwu and elsewhere suffered famine; 30,000 ingots of notes were granted in relief. Guang Prefecture had flooding; Anxi County of Zhongshan suffered hail damaging crops; the Dachang Tuntun River burst its banks; subordinate counties of Daining, Lu, De'an, Wu, and Zhongqing routes suffered flood and drought; all had rents remitted.

Seventh month of autumn, on jiachen day the imperial carriage departed Shangdu; riding in chariots and on horses was forbidden to trample the people's grain. Liao King Tuotuo requested restoration of garrison troops for Grand Empress Dowager Yeyelun's palace and Jurchen tuntun households; not approved. The annual grants to Taizu's four great ordos were increased by 200 ingots of silver and 8,000 ingots of notes. Envoys were dispatched to sacrifice to the sea god Tianfei. 30 felt carts for rearing leopards were constructed. On yisi day qielian tuntian fields suffered frost; 2 months' grain was granted in relief. On bingwu day sacrifice was performed at the Imperial Ancestral Temple. On dingwei day Ran Shichang of Youyang Stockade in Shaoqing and He're Cave barbarians became bandits. Edict: palace camels and horses and imperial kin and generals stationed for winter on the northern frontier shall not come to the capital without authorization. On xinhai day Aduchi was enfeoffed Prince of Suining and granted 4,000 ingots of notes; a gold seal was given. On renzi day the Empress received the Yaman Dagha precepts at the Crystal Hall. On jiayin day the Emperor visited Dagan Yuan Temple and ordered casting of bronze images of the Five Direction Buddhas. On yimao day an edict directed Hanlin exposition academician Aruwei and regular academician Yanchi to translate The Holy Instructions of Shizu for presentation at the classics mat lectures. On wuwu day Prince Busain presented camels and horses. 40 Japanese monks including Ruixing were dispatched to return to their country. A separate hall was built at the latent residence. Edict: "Those who donate grain for appointment to office shall be assessed according to the criteria for retired officials. On jiwei day princesses of the various princely establishments were forbidden to enter the capital to report famine. Yelü Temür inherited the enfeoffment as Prince of Qi; a gold seal was given. The Babai Xifu barbarians of Zhaonantong sent envoys presenting tribute of tame elephants and local products. On yichou day troops were dispatched to repair the three mountain pass roads of Yehu, Seze, and Sanggan. On wuchen day Venus crossed the sky. On jisi day Ninang, native official of Dali, came to present local products. On gengshen day Guangxi branch pacification vice commissioner Wang Rui requested increased garrison troops and that native people conduct tuntian farming to guard against barbarians; the Nanning Pacification Commission was also established. The Yellow River burst its banks at Zheng Prefecture and Yangwu County, sweeping away more than 16,500 households; relief was granted. Subordinate counties of Yongping and Dadu had flooding, great wind, and hail. Longxing and Chen Prefecture routes had fire; Daye, Yongping, Fengyuan, and other route subordinate counties had drought; Bianliang Route had flooding; Daye, Shunde, Weihui, Huai'an routes and Sui, Zhao, Zhuo, Ba prefectures and princely estate tuntian had locusts; Datong's Hunyuan River overflowed; Tan and Shun prefectures had two rivers burst; Wenyu River overflowed; 70,000 ingots of notes were granted in relief to Yongping and Fengyuan. 39,000-plus shi of wheat were issued and sold at reduced prices to relieve the famished people of Hao Prefecture. Orders were issued to bury abandoned corpses outside the capital; where cause of death was unclear, officials were to investigate.

Eighth month, on jiaxu day Wubadu and Xu Shijing both requested resignation of their administrative authority on account of calamities, famine, and crop failure; not approved. On yihai day Namatai was dispatched to inspect frontier troops; 1,000 ingots of notes were granted. The Spirit Hall at Datianyuan Yansheng Temple was completed. On wuyin day the Chengqingshi Sluice Gate was repaired. On jiashen day sacrifice was performed at the Imperial Ancestral Temple. Daoist priest Lan Daoyuan of Changchun Palace was dismissed on account of crime. Edict: "Daoist priests who have wives shall all be subject to corvée. Two hundred fifty households of Yellow Sheep Slope were relocated to the Tatar department. Diao Yong, cave barbarian of Ningyuan Prefecture, became bandits; the Yunnan Branch Secretariat was ordered to prepare against them. On dinghai day Prince of Liang Wang Chan was dispatched to regulate frontier affairs at Ordos. On xinmao day Yunnan Branch Secretariat chancellor Yierji and surveillance vice commissioner Sanzhiutai, while drunk, insulted each other; the matter was reported; an edict pardoned both. On jiawu day hunting was suspended on account of calamities. Henan tammaqchi troops were granted relief; their remaining adult males were registered. The mobile Bureau of Buddhist Affairs and the Merit Commission were abolished; arrears of weapons owed to the Armory Directorate were remitted. On dingyou day Prince Busain dispatched envoys presenting jade and Bactrian camels. That night Venus encroached upon Xuanyuan's Consort Maid. On account of the stellar anomaly, an edict showing care for the people was issued. On xinchou day the Emperor stopped at Zhongdu and hunted at Wanghuochatu. Grand Preceptor Atanchu was granted 2,800 ingots of notes. Deer-top Hall was completed. Gansu Zhahun Granary was abolished; its military provisions were moved to Wanghula Granary. Minister of Revenue Guo Liang was dismissed on account of corruption. A Tianfei Palace was built at Haijin Town. Western Tibet native official Sajia Bu came to present local products; sea bandit Li San came to submit. An edict was issued instructing diver households of Lian Prefecture to resume their occupations. Yanguan Prefecture had great wind; the sea overflowed; more than 30 li of dikes were destroyed; envoys were dispatched to sacrifice to the sea god — this did not stop it; 1,250 households were relocated. Changping in Dadu had great wind, destroying 900 households' dwellings. Longqing Route had hail 1 chi deep and great wind damaging crops. Li County of Zhen Prefecture, Pucheng and other counties of Fengyuan, and Wuwei Prefecture and other places had flooding; Hezhong Prefecture, Yongping, Jianchang Yindu, Zhongqing, Taiping routes and Guangxi's Two Rivers suffered famine — grain was issued for relief in all cases. Chongming Prefecture of Yang Prefecture had great wind and rain; the sea overflowed; coffins and burial were provided for the drowned. Hang Prefecture had fire; 1 month's grain was granted in relief. Ninth month, on dingwei day one additional deputy to the Shangdu Intendant was established, concurrently serving as investigating magistrate. On xinhai day the Imperial Preceptor was ordered to return to the capital and perform purification Buddhist rites at the three palaces of Daming, Xingsheng, and Longfu. On dingsi day the liquor prohibition in Dadu, Shangdu, and Xinghe was relaxed. On gengshen day the imperial carriage arrived at Dadu. On renxu day Chana was put in charge of revenue affairs. On guihai day Venus encroached upon Right Enforcer of the Supreme Palace Enclosure. 75 newly submitted barbarian officials of Dacheli were granted fur coats, caps, boots, and stockings. On wuchen day Huanchi and others were appointed envoys to the three princely establishments of Qiebie, Yuesibie, and Busain. 200,000 ingots of notes were granted in relief to the poor of the latent residence. Guo Fu, route administrator of Taiping Route, Huguang Branch Secretariat; Ai Pei, stockade chief of Tula Stockade, Weichu Route, Yunnan Branch Secretariat; A'wu, son of Azinong, stockade chief of Jingdong Stockade; Nidao, younger brother of the stockade master of Da'a'ai Stockade; Ai Bolli, stockade chief of Mula Stockade; Ali, native official of Mangshi Route; Tuojin Ke, younger brother of Ningnang, native official of Zhenkang Route; Qiuluo, native official of Munian Route; Ai Yong, nephew of Zhao'ai of Dacheli; Wuzhong, native official of Menglong District — all came presenting local products. Based on Zhao'ai's territory 1 Muduo Route, 1 Mulai Prefecture, and 3 districts were established; based on Wuzhong's territory 1 Menglong Route and 1 district; based on Ai Pei's territory 1 district — gold talismans and bronze seals were granted, and silks and saddle trappings were granted in varying amounts. Central Secretariat officials stated: "State revenues are now insufficient; Your Majesty ought to take Emperor Shizu's diligence and frugality as an everlasting plan. We who serve in office, should any among us improperly receive imperial rewards, shall certainly memorialize in return. The Emperor commended and accepted this. Subordinate counties of Yang, Ning, and Jiande had flooding; Nan'en Prefecture had drought; the people suffered famine — all were relieved. Pingyao County of Fen Prefecture — the Fen River overflowed; Lu and Huaiqing routes had locusts.

Winter, tenth month, on xinwei new moon, 4,000 laborers were dispatched to repair the Tong Prefecture road; 1,600 ingots of notes were granted. On jiaxu day Niuzhe was promoted to right censor-in-chief. On gengchen day sacrifice was performed at the Imperial Ancestral Temple. Emperor Xianzong's imperial portrait was installed at Datianyuan Yansheng Temple. On xinsi day Venus encroached upon Worthies. On the Tianshou Festival, Daoist priests were dispatched to sacrifice at Weihui Taiyi Wanshou Palace. On renwu day the Imperial Preceptor returned to Sasija due to illness; gold, silver, notes, and silks numbering in the tens of thousands were granted; the Central Secretariat was ordered to dispatch officials to accompany him and supply his provisions. On guiyou day the Yellow River overflowed; the Lele Dike of Bianliang Route was damaged; 64,000 laborers were conscripted to repair it. The capital suffered famine; 800,000 shi of grain were issued and sold at reduced prices. Datianyuan Yansheng Temple was granted 20,000 ingots of notes and 1,000 qing of fields in Ji'an and Linjiang circuits. Central Secretariat officials stated: "To support soldiers and civilians, one must rely on the bounty of the land. Shizu built Daxuanwen Hongjiao and other temples and granted perpetual estates — even then it was already called wasteful spending; Chengzong again constructed Tianshou Wannning Temple, and compared with Shizu the expenditure increased by half again. As for Wuzong's Chong'en Fuyuan and Renzong's Chenghua Puqing, the revenue from land rents and monopolies was greater still. Yingzong cut through mountains to open temples, harming soldiers and farmers, yet in the end to no benefit. The land belongs to the ancestors; descendants ought jointly to cherish it. We fear that hereafter this may be used as a pretext to wantonly launch labor projects and seek blessings to indulge private desires — may Your Majesty examine this. The Emperor commended and accepted this. On gengzi day Shaanxi Branch Censorate associate director Yao Wei requested compilation of Shizu's excellent words and good deeds for timely review — approved. Shenyang, Liaoyang, Daning routes and Jin and Fu prefectures had flooding; the people suffered famine; 50,000 ingots of notes were granted in relief. Xiuwu County of Huaiqing had drought; its rent was remitted. Ningxia Route wanhu office and Qingyuan Pacification Commission suffered famine; both were granted relief. The liquor prohibition in Ningxia Route was relaxed. Pacification commissioners Ma He [some] and Li Rang impeached Zhejiang-West surveillance commissioner Wanzhibuhua for accepting bribes; on ledger verification he did not confess; an edict dispatched Ministry of Justice bureau director Suozhu to investigate his insulting of envoys, and he was flogged. Eleventh month, on guimao day central secretariat officials said: "Western monks each use birth-anniversary memorials to secure release of serious prisoners, contrary to proper governance; we request this be abolished." An edict directed: "From now on, those who are to be released shall be reviewed by the Court of the Imperial Clan." On yisi day Prince of Liang Wang Chan proceeded to the northern frontier; 2,000 ingots of notes were granted. On jiyou day a deer-peak palm-fiber pavilion was built. On xinhai day former central secretariat grand councillor Li Meng's office was posthumously restored. Prince of Xiangning Bala Temür was granted 3,000 ingots of notes. Prince Busaiyin dispatched envoys presenting horses. On yimao day Venus encroached upon Jianbi. Toujiang Tuan Yao in Guangxi raided; pacification commissioner Mainu induced them to submit. Fuling, Qingxi, Litou and other Yuan barbarians raided; the Huguang branch secretariat dispatched envoys to induce them to submit. On wuwu day 100,000 ingots each of Zhongtong and Zhiyuan notes were minted. Prince Temür Buqa was enfeoffed Prince of Zhennan to garrison Yangzhou. On xinyou day censor-in-chief Niuzhe was additionally granted commissioner with the Ceremonial Standing Equal to the Three Excellencies. The Lu-ling River god was posthumously enfeoffed as Xianying. The liquor prohibition in Chengdu was relaxed. Bozhou barbarian Song Wangbao came to submit. On jisi day Shangdu's Qingning Hall was relocated to the Bo'er travel-palace. The prohibition on mountains and marshes in Yongping Route was relaxed. Regulations for capturing thieves were established: if not captured within the deadline, compensation was required for the stolen goods. On xinchou day Tash Temür and Dilqash were ordered to take charge of the affairs of the 4 ordos of the Palace Secretariat. On guimao day Annam sent envoys to present tribute of local products. On jiachen day Yao bandits of Wuzhou raided; the Huguang Branch Secretariat supervised troops to capture them. On wushen day Prince Boluo sent envoys presenting cinnabar; 2,000 ingots of notes were granted. On guichou day Zhao Shiyan, central secretariat participant Han Rang, and left department director Yao Yong were ordered to superintend the Directorate of Education. First year of Zhihe, spring, first month, on yichou new moon, the king of Goryeo sent envoys to court to offer New Year's congratulations and present local products. On jiaxu day sacrifice was performed at the Imperial Ancestral Temple. Orders were issued to paint the "Silo and Wheat Illustrations." On yihai day an edict addressed all offices: "All who do not proceed to their posts or who leave their duties without authorization shall be stripped of office; those who evade assignments shall be flogged." Censor Zou Weiheng said: "At seasonal sacrifice at the Imperial Ancestral Temple, the three-offering officials were formerly all meritorious kin and great ministers; recently the Minister of Revenue has served as second offerer — the person is remote and the rites cannot be solemn. We request restoring the former system and appointing weighty ministers from the secretariat, censorate, privy council, and palace guard." On dingchou day the 14 articles of the Former Regulations on Agriculture and Sericulture were promulgated throughout the realm; officials were still ordered to encourage and inspect diligence and laxity. On jimao day the emperor was about to hunt at Willow Grove; censors Wang Xian and others remonstrated on account of famine that year; the emperor said: "Let the imperial guard soldiers not disturb civilian households; 2 censors are ordered to inspect. Prince Xingjiban's department suffered famine; 10,000 ingots of notes and 5,000 shi of grain were granted in relief. Champa sent envoys to present tribute of local products and also reported invasion by Jiaozhi; an edict was issued ordering reconciliation. Monks and Daoists were forbidden to conceal commercial taxes; Mongol men, women, and children of Zongren Guard were granted 6 months' grain. On xinsi day Jingjiang Yao raided Lingchuan and Lingui 2 counties; Guangxi was ordered to capture them. On jiashen day envoys were dispatched to sacrifice to the Sea Goddess Tianfei. On wuzi day an edict ordered favorable protection of the king of Java, Zhaya Nage, and clothing and bow and arrows were still granted. The Henan Iron Smelting Intendant Office was abolished and returned to the regular offices. The Imperial Preceptor was ordered to perform Buddhist rites within the forbidden precinct. Shaanxi salt-panning levies were remitted for 1 year; troops were dispatched to repair the capital city walls; salt rations in subordinate counties of Yidu were abolished. The Xingyuan Dragon Spirit was additionally enfeoffed as Duke of Fuying Zhaohui. Hejian, Zhending, Shunde, and other routes suffered famine; 11,000 ingots of notes were granted in relief. Dadulu Dong'an Prefecture and Daming Route's Baima County suffered famine; all were granted relief.

Henan's self-assessed field grain tax was remitted for 1 year; tax grain in disaster-stricken prefectures and commanderies was remitted for 1 year; displaced persons who returned to their occupations had levies and taxes remitted for 3 years; all doubtful cases held in custody for 3 years without decision were released. Prince of Liaoning Tuotuo was granted 5,000 ingots of notes; Prince of Liang Wang Shan was granted 2,000 ingots of notes. On renxu day Venus appeared in the daytime. On guihai day the Heilong Dam of Jie Prefecture's salt ponds was damaged; Fanxiu salt laborers were mobilized to repair it. Shaanxi's various routes suffered famine; 50,000 ingots of notes were granted in relief. Dependent counties of Hejian and Bianliang routes and the Mongol troops at Kaicheng and Qian Prefecture suffered famine; all were granted relief.

Third month, on gengwu day, 1,000 Asud Guard soldiers on frontier garrison duty were each granted 40 ingots of notes; 6,100 impoverished persons were each granted 5 shi of grain. Anlong Stockade native official Cen Shizhong of Yunnan and his elder brother Shixing attacked each other; he registered 32,000 households and submitted, offering 3,000 bolts of cloth annually; he requested establishment of a pacification commission to oversee the area — not approved. One prefecture was established, with Shixing in charge of prefectural affairs; 2 counties were established, with Shizhong allowed to recommend appointees; they were also instructed to live together in harmony. Two wanhu offices were established, commanding the Western Campaign Red Padded-Jacket Army. Tash Temür and Dilqash said, "Calamities and portents have not ceased, due to dismissed officials who were removed for crimes bearing resentment and slander; we request they be appointed according to talent and ability." Approved. On xinwei day the spirit hall of Emperor Xianzong at the Great Tianyuan Yansheng Temple was completed; a commissioner office was established to manage revenues. On renshen day there was rain and haze. On jiaxu day the country of Yaji dispatched envoys presenting local products. On yimao day the Emperor attended Xingsheng Hall to receive the Amitayus Buddha precepts from the Imperial Preceptor. On gengchen day 1,000 monks were ordered to perform Buddhist rites at Zhenguo Temple. On xinsi day Princess Shouning was granted 10,000 strings of notes for salt prices. On jiashen day Minister of Revenue Li Jianu was dispatched to Yanguan to sacrifice to the Sea God, and also to assemble deliberation on repairing the coast. On bingxu day an edict directed the Imperial Preceptor to order monks to perform Buddhist rites at Yanguan Prefecture, and also to build 216 pagodas to suppress seawater overflow. On wuzi day the imperial carriage proceeded to Shangdu. On jichou day Zhao Shiyan was made superintendent of the Classics Colloquium; Zhao Jian was made associate superintendent; Aruwei was made deputy superintendent; Cao Yuanyong, Wu Bingdao, Yu Ji, Duan Fu, Ma Zuchang, Yanchi, and Bolu Chung were all additionally appointed Classics Colloquium officials. Yunnan native official Sajiabu submitted, presenting local products; one prefecture was established, with Sajiabu in charge of prefectural affairs, subordinate to the Luoluo Pacification Commission, and his rent and levies were collected. On renchen day a woman of the Yang clan in Dangtu County, Taiping Route, gave birth to triplets. Jining and Weihui routes and Tai'an Prefecture suffered famine; 48,300 ingots of notes were granted in relief. Pingding Prefecture of Jining Route suffered famine; 30,000 shi of grain was issued and sold at reduced prices. Shaanxi, Sichuan, and Henan Prefecture and other places suffered famine; all were granted relief.

On renyin day Li Jianu reported the proposal for building stone cribs to hold back the sea. On jiyou day surveillance censor Yang Zhuo and others, citing famine among the people, requested distributing stored grain from monks and Daoists to relieve them — no response. On jiayin day Mount Meng Spirit was re-enfeoffed as King Jiahui Zhaoying; Salt Pond Spirit as Duke Lingfu; Dongting Shrine Spirit as King Zhonghui Shunli Lingji Zhaoyou; Tang Liuzhou prefect Liu Zongyuan as Duke Wenhui Zhaoling. On wuwu day counterfeiting gold and silver vessels was prohibited. Dependent prefectures and counties of Dadu, Dongchang, Daning, Bianliang, and Huaqing suffered famine; grain was issued in relief. Dependent prefectures and counties of Baoding, Guanzhou, Dezhou, Panyang, Zhangde, and Jinan suffered famine; notes were issued in relief. That month, Lingzhou and Jun Prefecture had heavy hail. On bingyin day the monk Chen Qing'an of Puning County, Guangxi, rebelled, presumptuously establishing a state and changing the era name. On jisi day Babai Xifuman dispatched his son Aizhao presenting a tame elephant. On guiyou day disabled persons among displaced persons in the capital were registered, granted grain, and sent back. Dali Nujiang Prefecture native official A'aini raided Lezhu and other stockades; the Yunnan Branch Secretariat was ordered to supervise troops in capturing him. On gengchen day a meteor as large as a jar appeared, its light illuminating the ground. On jiashen day the kingdom of Annam and chieftains of the Eight-Cave tribes dispatched envoys presenting local products. On wuzi day Tash Temür, grand councillor of the Lingbei Branch Secretariat, was made central secretariat grand councillor. That month, Yanshan South, Shandong East Circuit, and Fengyuan, Datong, Hejian, Henan, Dongping, Puzhou and other places suffered famine; more than 143,000 ingots of notes were granted in relief. Dependent counties of Xia Prefecture suffered famine; 5,000 shi of grain was issued and sold at reduced prices in relief. Dependent counties of Jining, Guangping, and Zhending routes had heavy hail; Yingzhou of Runing Prefecture and Jixian of Weihui Route had locusts; Lingtai County of Jing Prefecture suffered drought. Sixth month, the Korean crown prince Wangzhetu petitioned for the return of his seal; grand councillor Mailü was dispatched to instruct the king of Goryeo to return it. On bingwu day envoys were dispatched to sacrifice at Emperor Shizu's spirit hall. That month, in the various commanderies of Princes Nandash, Cheche Tu, Huosha, and Naimatai wind and snow killed livestock; soldiers suffered famine; 50,000 shi of grain and 400,000 ingots of notes were granted in relief. Fengyuan and Yan'an routes suffered famine; 4,890 ingots of notes were granted in relief. Zhangde dependent counties had heavy hail; Nanning, Kaiyuan, and Yongping routes had flooding; dependent counties of Jiangling Route suffered drought; De'an garrison-farm in Henan had silk worms eating mulberry leaves.

Autumn, seventh month, on xinyou new moon, Ningxia suffered an earthquake. On gengwu day the Emperor died; he was 36 years old and was buried at Qinian Valley. On jimao day Daning Route suffered an earthquake. On guiwei day Buddhist rites were performed at Qinming Hall. On yiyou day the empress and crown prince issued directives reassuring and settling the common people. On bingxu day Venus transgressed the great star of Xuanyuan.

Ninth month, Dilqash installed the crown prince as emperor, changed the era name to Tianshun, and proclaimed throughout the realm.

In the Taiding era calamities and portents appeared repeatedly; among ruler and ministers likewise no actual practice of accepting blame and examining oneself was seen — yet they knew how to adhere to ancestral laws in carrying out affairs; under Heaven there was no turmoil, and the age was called well governed — this is why it deserves to be regarded as sufficient grounds for praise.
