Second year of Zhishun, spring, first month, on jimao day, the Emperor personally composed the 《Record of the Kui Zhang Pavilion》. Mobile privy council officials said: "In the 11th month, acting Rendeh Prefecture darughachi Qushu gathered troops to campaign against Yunnan; he first defeated the rebel troops of Boqu at Malong Prefecture; on the 11th day of that month he killed Boqu's younger brother Bairan and presented heads to the Prince of Yu. On the 13th day. They fought at Majin Mountain, captured Boqu and his younger brother Boyan Tsaghur and more than 10 of his followers including Baibuhua and Boyan Temür, executed them; the remaining troops all fled; only Luchu still held the Jinsha River." An edict ordered urgent advance of troops to suppress him. On gengchen day, Baofeng, abbot of the Great Cheng Tian Protecting the Sagely Monastery, was promoted to Grand Mentor. On xinsi day, Cao Ge of Wei County in Daming Prefecture contributed grain to relieve famine in Shaanxi; his household gate was honored. On guiwei day, the Directorate of Palace Attendance was established to oversee inner attendants, rank 2b. On yiyou day, the seasonal offering was performed at the Imperial Ancestral Temple. On bingxu day, Bayan, Yolu Temür, Yolu Buhua, Abu Haiya, and 14 others were all made to concurrently hold palace attendance posts with their existing offices. Li, wife of Guo Zhong'an of Daxing County in Dadu, was honored for chastity. On dinghai day, because the monastery Yingzong had built on Shou'an Mountain was unfinished, the central secretariat was ordered to supply 100,000 ingots of notes for its expenses, and Yan Temür, Sadi, and others were still ordered to oversee the labor. Rear Guard commander Shi Kan was ordered to go to the Sichuan Branch Secretariat to select military officers. On wuzi day, Nuduchi Aliqa was ordered to inspect grazing lands along the northern frontier. More than 24,000 households including Liu Yuanliang among the Jin estate's subject people were made perpetual-tenure households subordinate to the Shou'an Mountain Great Zhaoxiao Monastery. Central secretariat officials said: "Sichuan provincial officials Toghan and Toqtemür and others campaigned against Yunnan; on the 9th day of the 11th month they led troops to Wusa Zhouni Post Station. The next day, more than 10,000 rebel troops under Luchu, Anu, and Ada emerged by a hidden mountain path from behind the range. Toghan, Toqtemür, and others advanced to attack and repeatedly defeated them. On the 15th day they fought again at Qixing Pass; in 6 days there were 17 battles in all; the rebels were greatly defeated and fled." An edict dispatched envoys bearing silver and silks to reward Toghan, Toqtemür, and the others. The year's quota of note reserves was minted: 890,050 ingots of Zhiyuan notes and 5,000 ingots of Zhongtong notes. 5,000 ingots of notes were granted to relieve the famished people of Ninghai Prefecture. The Yidu and elsewhere Broad Agriculture Intendancy was abolished and replaced with the Land-Tax Directorate-General, rank 3b, still placed under the Longxiang Directorate-General. Xinghe Route was ordered to build Yan Temür's hawking mews. Privy council officials said: "The Sichuan Branch Secretariat borders Wusa, yet Yunnan is not yet pacified; garrison troops are few and thin; troops should be increased for defense. We request transferring 700 qielian household service men from Kuizhou Route and 300 soldiers of the 2 battalions of Chongqing Hedong's 5 circuits to garrison there together. When the campaign troops return, all shall be dismissed and sent home." It was approved. On gengyin day, the Eastern Route Mongol Army Wanhu Office was renamed the Eastern Route Mongol Palace Guard Command. Prince Kharmang dispatched envoys to present grape wine as tribute. By national regulation, successive reigns' traveling encampments had guards and attendants as when the sovereign was on the throne. Recently the redundant and excessive were cut; for the Wuzong and Renzong reigns each was fixed at 800 men, and for Yingzong 700 men. Central secretariat officials said that among the former attendants some had lost their posts; an edict restored 100 of them. On xinmao day, Crown Prince Alaqa Nadala died. On renchen day, 58 persons including palace steward Fali and attendants were ordered to escort the spirit carriage north for joint burial at the imperial tombs, and Fali and the others were still ordered to guard it. Surveillance censors memorialized: "Fujian Branch Secretariat associate commissioner Haji, formerly Guangdong surveillance vice commissioner, was greedy and corrupt beyond reckoning — he should be dismissed." It was approved. On jihai day, Minister of Personnel Sarva, wearing a tiger tally, and Ministry of Rites bureau director Zhao Qiyi, wearing a gold tally, were dispatched bearing the accession proclamation to announce to Annan, and also granted the 《Season-Granting Calendar》. Prince of Wu Ning Cheche Tu was granted 100 taels of gold and 500 taels of silver, and Haining Prefecture in Huai'an Route was made his fief. On guimao day, because the rash illness of Prince Guna Nadala had healed, Yan Temür and Princess Chaghijir were each granted 100 taels of gold, 500 taels of silver, and 2,000 ingots of notes; Sadun and others received gold, silver, and notes in varying amounts; physicians, shamans, wet nurses, eunuchs, and guards — 600 persons in all — were also granted 350 taels of gold, 3,400 taels of silver, and 5,340 ingots of notes. On jiachen day, an edict ordered the 4 annual sacrifices to the Great Taiyi Star of the Five Blessings. A Confucius temple was built at the Rear Guard. At the end of the Zhiyuan era, campaigning against Prince Nayan's rebellion, Mongol troops of his following were captured and distributed among Henan, Jiang-Zhe, Huguang, and Jiangxi provinces; the privy council was ordered to dispatch envoys to register their numbers and found 2,600 men. On yisi day, the spirit worshipped by Mongol shamans was enfeoffed as King Linggan Zhaoying Huguo Zhongshun, and its temple was titled Lingyou. The guards' annual allotment of notes was granted — 80 ingots per man, one-fifth of which was taken in other goods and grain. Western Pacification Martial Tranquility King Chaghan Temür, Prince of Yu Alaqa Nasirli, and branch secretariat and branch privy council officials jointly campaigned against Yunnan with more than 100,000 troops; on the 11th day of the 11th month last year Chaghan Temür's army halted at Luoluo; they expected Yolqi Temür to arrive together at Sanbolang, and still urged Xiao Yunshi to meet at Qujing, Malong, and other prefectures to advance together. Yolqi Temür pressed forward by forced marches and seized the Jinsha River. On the 17th day of the 12th month the main army encountered Ahe's Mongol troops, defeated them, and Ahe feigned surrender; the next day he led 3,000 of his troops in 3 columns to raid Our camp; Chaghan Temür, Yolqi Temür, and others divided into 13 columns and again defeated them; Ahe fled in disorder; the main army pressed straight for Zhongqing. On the 26th day they met rebel Mongol troops at Anning Prefecture and fought again, again defeating them greatly. On the 28th day Ahe came to give battle and was thereupon captured and beheaded before the army. On the 30th day, as they were about to reach Zhongqing, 7,000 rebel troops still resisted at Qiqiao and Gubikou; when the armies clashed, Yolqi Temür was struck by an arrow in the left cheek that pierced behind the ear; he pulled out the arrow and fought again; there was a great victory, and the branch secretariat administration was restored. All armies assembled and encamped within the city; troops were divided to pursue remnant rebels at Songming Prefecture. Privy council officials reported the victory; an edict ordered the overall commanders to gauge urgency and ease and dispose as circumstances required. The chief of Wenghe Stockade in the Xintian Pacification Commission complained that other departments' corvée laborers and Liao people trampled his grain and the people were famished; Huguang Branch Secretariat was ordered to issue 2,000 ingots of notes to buy rice for relief.

Second month, on bingxu day, Shangdu garrison commander Naimatai was made administrator of the Northern Pacification Mobile Privy Council; Taixi Zongyin commissioner Jinjir, Dalindari, and Doliniq were all made privy council administrators by remote appointment as associate grand councillors. On wushen day, the Broad Teaching Directorate-General was established to govern Buddhist and Daoist clergy; there were 16 jurisdictions in all: the Capital Region and Shanhou Circuit; Hedong and Shanxi Circuit; Liaodong and Shanbei Circuit; Henan and Jingbei Circuit; Liang-Huai and Jiangbei Circuit; Hubei and Hunan Circuit; Zhexi and Jiangdong Circuit; Zhedong and Fujian Circuit; Jiangxi and Guangdong Circuit; Guangxi and Lianghai Circuit; the various routes of Yan South; the various routes of Shandong; the various routes of Shaanxi; the various routes of Gansu; the various routes of Sichuan; and the various routes of Yunnan. Rank 3a; the directorate-general had 1 darughachi, director-general, associate prefect, and judge each; the Commission for Buddhist and Secular Affairs selected inner-circuit officials for nomination and report; the director-general was a monk. The Sichuan Branch Secretariat induced the submission of the 4 caves of Ligu Shiyong and elsewhere in Huaide Prefecture and 12 caves of raw barbarians; all came within the allegiance; an edict promoted Huaide Prefecture to a Pacification Commission to garrison them. Each cave was given a native-official prefecture and patrol office, and they were also ordered each to return persons they had seized. Huguang associate administrator Cheku Temür, Susu, and Bandan were all punished for uttering complaints; interrogation established the facts; the Ministry of Justice judged that Cheku Temür and Bandan should receive 107 blows of the staff and Susu should be executed; an amnesty intervened — Cheku Temür was exiled to Guangdong, Bandan to Guangxi, and Susu to Hainan — all placed in remote frontier prefectures. An edict said: "These men harbored resentment toward Us; had it not been for the amnesty, all should have been put to the extreme penalty; their households may all be registered and confiscated; Susu is to be imprisoned for life." On jiyou day, a white rainbow crossed the sun. Zhang, wife of Du Zulong of Jin Prefecture in Gongchang, was honored for steadfast integrity. Privy council officials said: "Cheku Temür and Boluo on the first month, wuyin day, defeated Wusa barbarian troops, shot Luchu, and reduced his people; Wumeng, Dongchuan, Yiliang Prefecture barbarian troops, Yi, and Liao all came to submit. Western Pacification Martial Tranquility King Chaghan Temür and others encamped at Zhongqing and restored branch secretariat affairs; Prince of Yu Alaqa Nasirli and others reached Dangdang Post Station and pacified the people." They also said: "Chengjiang Route native official Junrong reported that the rebels Gulahu and Buladu's younger brother Bila Dushmishi and others feigned surrender to the Prince of Yu yet turned to besiege him; reaching Yilong Post Station, Gulahu and others' troops ambushed the government army. Sichuan Branch Secretariat associate grand councillor Toghan halted his army and did not advance; associate grand councillor Qizhu's wife, children, and livestock were seized by rebels. Spies learned Buladu was repairing fortresses, deploying troops to resist and defend, with no intent to come out and surrender." An edict ordered rapid advance of troops to suppress them. An edict ordered tamachi scout soldiers to relocate each year on the 10th day of the 5th month to the various prefectures behind the mountains. On xinhai day, Yan Temür's residence was built southwest of the Xingsheng Palace; an edict ordered Sadi and the garrison command to supervise the labor. On renzi day, Venus was seen in daylight. Central secretariat associate grand councillor Yireqi concurrently became pacification commissioner of Shenyang and other routes; Prince of Yan palace steward Barsari was made central secretariat associate grand councillor; Shaanxi Branch Secretariat associate censor Duorzhiban was made central secretariat associate administrator; Minister of Revenue Gao Lüheng and Liang-Huai salt transport commissioner Xu Youren were both made participants in central secretariat affairs. On jiayin day, Yan Temür said: "Sayin Qalama'din, in Yingzong's time, once presented treasure goods to the Zhaoxian Yuansheng Empress Dowager; payment of 120,000 ingots of notes was discussed; the former chancellor Baizhu memorialized compensation of 70,000 ingots, which was not paid; in the Taiding era 10,660 salt certificates were used to convert to notes and pay him; now the relevant office, by imperial writ, seizes them back for the government. We your subjects judge that since the Empress Dowager had already used the treasure goods, it is fitting to return them with salt certificates." It was approved. Yan Temür also said: "Anqing wanhu Suozhu, convicted of letting his household kill a man and imprisoned, has long failed to confess — if treated as without guilt, we beg his release." An imperial order said: "Permitted. On yimao day, Venus invaded the Pleiades. The imperial portraits of Taizu, Taizong, and Ruizong were sacrificed to. Yunnan overall commanders came reporting victory; all barbarians had submitted, only Luchu's pursuit had not yet captured him. It was ordered that Han troops of each guard take rotating leave — 2 tenths were dismissed and sent home on the 1st day of the 3rd month. On dingsi day, imperial son-in-law Buyan Temür came to court from the northern frontier following Prince of Wu Ning Cheche Tu. On jiwei day, western monks were ordered to perform Buddhist rites for Prince Guna Nadala for 1 full year. On renxu day, Prince of Wu Ning Cheche Tu was re-enfeoffed as Prince of Tan and granted a gold seal. On jiazi day, central secretariat officials said: "The state's revenue in money and grain has fixed annual intake, yet expenditure is vast and complex, and therefore there is insufficiency. In Tianli year 2, one-tenth of the salt tax was once converted to silver payment, gaining more than 2,000 ingots of silver in all. We now request exchanging silver for government note reserves to supply the palace guard soldiers." They also said: "Your Majesty, without drawing on routine funds and without troubling the people, founded the Great Cheng Tian Protecting the Sagely Monastery. We your subjects wish to offer up the note reserves previously exchanged — 100,000 ingots and 600 ingots of silver — to assist the monastery's needs." It was approved. On bingyin day, for those of the 4 great traveling encampments of Taizu who remained in the north and did not migrate, whose horses, camels, and livestock had largely died or been lost, 10,000 ingots of notes were issued and the Inner Secretariat was ordered to buy and supply them. Mobile Privy Council administrator Aliqa came reporting Yunnan's victory. On gengwu day, the guards' annual allotment of notes was granted; an edict ordered that it not exceed the fixed quota of 10,000 men. Champa dispatched its minister Gao Andula to come to court with tribute. The Five Blessings Great Taiyi Palace was founded in the northwest quarter of the capital; Hongxi and Chongshou halls at Shangdu were repaired. Princes Cheche Tu and Shage were convicted of reckless and improper speech; an edict ordered Cheche Tu settled at Guangzhou and Shage at Leizhou. On renshen day, Liaodong Branch Secretariat was ordered to issue grain to relieve the Mongol troops and people of King Dorji and Nahuadar and 6 other departments — 15,000 households in all. The chaste conduct of Wang, wife of Dadu commoner Liu Deren, was commended. On jiaxu day, the Prince of Xuanrang's prince tutor seal was granted. Prince of Jing Yesu Bugan presented tribute yak. The Land Tax Directorate General was ordered to remit mine-tax silver to the Great Chengtian Protecting Sagacity Temple. Xinghe Route was ordered to build a hawking mews for Yuelu Buhua. Jingdong zhou native official Azhinong of Yunnan dispatched his son Hanwang to court, presenting a trained elephant, and requested that the zhou be elevated to Jingdong Military-Civilian Prefecture, with Azhinong as prefect and Hanwang as qianhu; beyond the regular levy, an annual additional tribute of 5,000 taels of gold and 700 taels of silver was requested — granted. 10,000 ingots of notes from the Shandong salt levy were used to relieve famine in Jiaozhou. Longyi Guard was ordered to use garrison-field annual grain revenue to support impoverished guard soldiers. This month, in Shen and Ji 2 prefectures worms ate mulberry leaves, causing disaster.

Third month, bingzi new moon — Mars transgressed the Ghost lunar mansion. On xinsi day, censorate officials impeached and memorialized: "Yannan surveillance commissioner Bozan'er, formerly Minhai surveillance commissioner, accepted bribes totaling more than 22,000 ingots of notes, more than 500 taels of gold, more than 3,000 taels of silver, 22 male and female bondservants, and countless other treasures — though encountering amnesty he was pardoned, we beg that his commission documents be stripped, his property registered and confiscated, and he be banished." An edict followed their words; his crimes were moreover exposed to show the empire. On renwu day, civil and military officials attending southern suburban sacrifices were granted gold and silks in varying amounts. Shazhin Aihu Chi Bilate Nashiri was specially appointed Tripitaka National Preceptor and granted a jade seal. 10,000 ingots of notes from the Shaanxi salt levy were used to relieve Mongol famine refugees at Chaghan Na'ur. On guiwei day, 1,000 bolts each of silks and cloth from outer prefectures were allocated to the inner palace for supply needs. On jiashen day, a true portrait of the crown prince was painted and installed in the East Stag-Peak Hall of Qingshou Temple, sacrificing to it with the rites of successive dynasties' spirit-shrine halls. The eunuch Baizhu, attending the crown prince's rash illness, did not bring food at proper times, wiped butter on his eyes and nose, and moreover performed exorcistic incantations — he was beaten 107 strokes and expelled from the capital. In Guan Prefecture worms ate more than 400,000 mulberry plants. Censorate officials said: "Kuizhang Pavilion associate compiler Yahu fawned on wicked ministers and acted unlawfully — his post should be dismissed." Approved. On bingxu day, earth rained; haze. Barsar resigned his concurrent post as superintendent of stored governance; not granted. Bayan married a prince's daughter and was granted 200 taels of gold and 1,000 taels of silver. To the 11 households of those who died for the state at Shangdu, including Buyan Temür, 100 ingots of notes each were granted; 100 men of Yan Temür's hawking establishment were granted shares. Central secretariat officials said: "The Taxation Intendant Office annually monopolizes merchant taxes, amounting to more than 100,000 ingots of notes; in recent years the yield has not met quota — we request that wherever monks and Taoists engage in trade, their taxes still be levied." An instruction said: "Those who are truly monks shall still be exempt." Minister over the Masses Hongshan said: "In Tao Hongjing's 'Hujia Lyric' there is the phrase 'bearing the throne-screen, flying through the heavenly calendar — in the end it is the jiachen lord'; Your Majesty's birth year and era name in fact match it — this is truly a token of receiving the mandate; we beg it be recorded and sent to the Historiography Office and proclaimed within and without." An edict ordered the Hanlin Academy, Academy of Scholarly Worthies, Kuizhang Pavilion, and Ministry of Rites jointly to deliberate. Hanlin scholars deliberated, considering: "During Tang Kaiyuan, Crown Prince Guest of Honor Xue Rang presented Empress Wu's tripod inscription saying 'The Supreme Mystery descended with insight, and thus Longji was established' — taken as Xuanzong's mandate token. Yao Chong memorialized in congratulations, requesting it be proclaimed to historiographers and announced within and without. But Song scholar Sima Guang condemned taking such coincidental texts as auspicious signs as flattery of petty ministers, while the chief minister validated it — insulting the ruler. Now Hongjing's lyric, though it seems coincidentally to match birth year and era name, yet Your Majesty received Heaven and followed the people, continuing the legitimate succession; for 4 years now within and without the seas none have failed to turn their hearts — truly there is no need to rely on side references and forced interpretations as mandate tokens. Following their words would perhaps open the door to prophecy and weft-texts — not the means to fix the people's will. The matter was thereupon shelved. Prince of Zhao Buluna's fief households — more than 16,000 Mongol households in Sha, Jing, and Dening and other places — suffered famine; Hedong pacification commission was ordered to release 10,000 shi of grain from nearby granaries for relief. Notes from the Shandong salt levy and grain from the Prince Zhu granary were also issued to relieve famine among the people of Deng and Lai; grain from the Xinghe granary was issued to relieve famine among the people of Baochang. On wuzi day, the Western monk Xuni Diebadalaban was appointed Tripitaka National Preceptor and granted a gold seal. Longqing Prefecture's Floating-Cup Garden pool, water mill, and fields were granted to Yan Temür. Prince Aru was ordered to garrison Shaanxi Branch Secretariat. Registered property of Susu, Bandan, and Cherig Temür was granted to the Great Chengtian Protecting Sagacity Temple as perpetual endowment. Jiangxi routes in recent years suffered flood and drought; 850,000-odd famine households — central secretariat officials requested that tenant farmers of official, private, Confucian school, and temple lands borrow grain and money from their masters for self-relief; for the remainder, wealthy households were to be urged to share and grain submitted to purchase office rank; moreover 10,000 ingots of notes from the province were to be added, and 10,000 monk and Taoist ordination certificates were to be issued — approved. The chaste conduct of Haimishi, wife of associate administrator of Dadu Prefecture Manu Tulumishi, was commended. On jichou day, 7,000 famine households of Yunnei Prefecture and garrison troops at Chahu Lianglou tower were relieved. On gengyin day, Prince of Weishun Kuanche was ordered back to garrison Huguang. An edict ordered that spirit-shrine halls of successive emperors located in various temples each be given a distinguishing name as prefix: Shizu — Yuanshou; Empress Zhaorui Shunsheng — Ruishou; Empress Nambi — Yishou; Yuzong — Mingshou; Chengzong — Guangshou; Shunzong — Yanshou; Wuzong — Renshou; Empress Zhaoxian Zhaosheng — Zhaoshou; Renzong — Wenshou; Yingzong — Xuanshou; Mingzong — Jingshou. Taoist Ma Daoyi of Bozhou Great Pure Palace, Li Ruone of Bianliang Chaotian Palace, and Zhao Yiran of Henan Song Mountain — each leading his disciples — were summoned to court to perform the Universal Great Offering. More than 5,000 salt-worker households of western Zhejiang were relieved. Yuelu Buhua was ordered to perform Buddhist rites at Dexing Prefecture. A supervising censor impeached Jiang-Zhe Branch Secretariat associate administrator Tongtong for dissolute indulgence in feasting and ease, talent unfit for assisting governance — an edict dismissed him from office. Prince of Yu Alaqtenashiri, Western Pacification Martial and Tranquil Prince Suosi Ban, and others captured Yunnan bandits Yemugan, Luoluo, Totuomuer, Banbu, Aju, Chengjiang Route prefect Luoluo Buhua, Boqu's uncle Qiedegai, falsely appointed wanhu Huladai'er, and various officers — all were beheaded and their corpses dismembered to display publicly. More than 14,000 Mongol famine households within Liaodong were relieved. The chaste conduct of Li Run, wife of Hao Rong of Shandan Prefecture, was commended. Locusts in the various counties of Shaan Prefecture. Eight-Fan troops campaigning in Yunnan were all stationed in Guizhou; privy council officials requested envoys be dispatched to issue grain supplies. On jihai day, censorate officials impeached and memorialized: "Dadu intendant Liu Yuanren claimed illness and long did not attend to duties; when transferred to associate administrator of the Stored Governance Court he promptly took office — opportunistically clever at office, avoiding difficulty and seeking ease." He was dismissed by instruction. On gengzi day, because the Emperor was about to travel to Shangdu, Western monks were ordered to perform Buddhist rites at places where the imperial carriage lodged. On renyin day, because Qipchaq Guard soldiers had increased, they were divided into Left and Right guards. 100,000 ingots of notes were issued to Yunnan Branch Secretariat for military supplies and civilian provisions. On guimao day, censorate officials impeached and memorialized Minister of Works Su Bing for greedy and wicked conduct — an edict dismissed him. Datong Route for successive years suffered flood and drought; the people were greatly famished. Guard soldiers' horse fodder and grain were curtailed, beginning on the 1st day of the 4th month. More than 14,500 households of 7 princely domains — including Prince Shou Tolichu, Prince of Yangdi Temürch, Prince of Xiping Guanbu, and Prince of Chang Balashi — residing in Liaodong reported famine; Liaodong Branch Secretariat was ordered to release grain from nearby granaries for 2 months' relief. Prince of Xuanjing Bainu was ordered to establish prince tutor and other offices. The Palace Chancellor Directorate General was established, rank 3a, granted a silver seal. Because many Confucian school instructors were in the selection roster, those entering office from interior commands and Jiang-Huai were registered to Jiangxi, Jiang-Zhe, and Huguang; those from Shaanxi and the Two Guangs were registered to Fujian; those from Gansu, Sichuan, Yunnan, and Fujian were registered to the Two Guangs. An edict ordered Henan Branch Secretariat right vice chancellor Nahai to supervise garrison fields within the province. Central secretariat officials said: "Reed fields, pond hills, sand flats, and sand fields of Jiaxing, Pingjiang, Songjiang, and Jiangyin that are registered to the state were formerly granted to others; now we request they be re-granted to Yan Temür." An instruction said: "Yan Temür is not comparable to other ministers; order the offices where they lie to deliver them in full. Government grain from Tongzhou was issued to relieve more than 90,000 famine households in Tan, Shun, and Changping and other places; 3,500 ingots of notes from the Shandong salt levy were used to relieve more than 30,000 households in Yidu. This month, Shaanxi Branch Secretariat dispatched officials to distribute traveling grain to more than 70,000 mouths of famine refugees resuming livelihood; more than 1,000 mouths of Mongol famine refugees under Prince Bayan Bugan were relieved. Zhending and Bianliang 2 routes, and En, Guan, Jin, Ji, Shen, Li, Jing, and Xian 8 prefectures — all had worms eating mulberry leaves as disaster. The chaste conduct of Liu, wife of the former Revenue Ministry registrar Zhao Ye, was commended.

Summer, fourth month, bingwu new moon — commoner Wang Tuohuan of Quanning presented a silver mine. An edict established the Silver Field Intendant Office, subordinate to the Central Domestic Affairs Court. Central secretariat and privy council officials said: "When troops were raised in the Tianli era, commanders who fought the enemy should have merit rewards fixed. We deliberate: each prince — 100 taels of gold, 500 taels of silver, 1 gold belt, and 18 bolts each of brocaded silks; for ministers, those with 4 battles or more the same, those with 3 battles or 1 battle each with a graded difference." An instruction said: "Reward scales shall be entirely as you deliberated. Yan Temür first raised the great cause and personally donned armor; Bayan in Henan first executed the double-dealing and made Our road free of worry — the achievements of the 2 men are without compare; their rewards cannot be the same as the multitude's; grant Yan Temür 1 seven-jewel belt, 400 taels of gold, and 900 taels of silver; Bayan 1 gold belt, 200 taels of gold, and 700 taels of silver. Those receiving rewards numbered 96 men in all, using 2,400 taels of gold, 15,600 taels of silver, 91 gold belts, and more than 1,300 bolts of silks. Western monks were ordered to perform Buddhist rites for 1 month each at Wutai and Wuling Mountains to pray for blessings for Crown Prince Gunadala. 50,000 shi of grain was issued for relief sale to the capital's poor. On wushen day, the Emperor's paternal aunt, Grand Princess of Lu State, died. The Korean woman Buyan Teni in the palace was granted to Yan Temür; the king of Goryeo requested fields in the country be cut as dowry provision — an edict dispatched envoys to receive them. 3,000 guard soldiers were issued to assist labor at the Great Chengtian Protecting Sagacity Temple. On gengxu day, an edict ordered construction of Yan Temür's living shrine south of Hongqiao, with a stele erected to record his achievements. Censorate officials said: "Associate administrator Cao Li, though repeatedly serving Jiang-Zhe and now idle and dismissed, still associates and exchanges with wealthy households — he should be sent back to his home register of Datong Route. Moreover, supervising censor Wan Jialu once recommended associate censor-in-chief Heshang; Tuotuo once recommended surveillance commissioner Bozan'er — now Heshang and Bozan'er have both been removed for bribery crimes; Wan Jialu and Tuotuo can hardly bear censorate and secretariat posts." All were approved. Wuzhi County of Zhending Wuzhou suffered earthquake; for more than 1 month it did not cease. On renzi day, Yan Temür was ordered to take overall charge of Palace Chancellor Directorate General affairs; Yelburen and Barsar were both to hold their original offices concurrently as darughachi of the Palace Chancellor Directorate General. Prince Qariman dispatched envoys to court with tribute. On jiayin day, the Xuanzhong Imperial Guard Army Commander-in-Chief's Office was changed to the Xuanzhong Alan Imperial Guard Army Commanders Office and granted a silver seal. Central secretariat officials said: "Prince of Yue Tula in Wuzong's time had Shaoxing Route as fief, annually cutting and granting that route's rent and tax notes of 40,000 ingots; now his son Alaqtenashiri has inherited the princely title — half should be granted annually." Approved. On yimao day, seasonal offering at the Grand Temple. Western Pacification Martial and Tranquil Prince Suosi Ban and others, having pacified Yunnan, each dispatched envoys to report victory. Prince Duolienie, garrisoning Yunnan Pindian, supplied the army from his own resources to help suppress bandits; an edict granted him bestowed court robes. On bingchen day the great traveling tent used by Taizu was repaired. On wuwu day the Xuanyuan Abbey of Jiqing Route was made the Great Yuan Prospering Longevity Palace. Xinghe was ordered to build dwellings for sea hawks; Shangdu was ordered to build dwellings for falcons. On gengshen day the Henan Confucian Wu Bing was specially appointed registrar of the Arts and Literature Directorate, still granted matching rank. In Jing County of Ningguo Route, Zhang Dao killed a man and became a bandit; his younger brother Ji joined but did not share in the deed, and while in custody the case went undecided for 7 years. Ji's mother was elderly with no other sons or grandsons; central secretariat officials reported it; an edict spared him death, flogged and dismissed him, and ordered him to support his mother. On xinwei day 5,000 ingots of Shandong salt duty notes relieved famine among 9,000 households in Boxing Prefecture, and 1,000 ingots relieved salt workers at Xinyang and other stations. Censorate officials said: "Palace Stores commissioner Hasaer Buhua, while attending the Emperor at his hidden residence, received 79 horses and also embezzled government storehouse goods. At the beginning of Tiansli, leading troops at Lugou Bridge, he fled upon meeting the enemy, arbitrarily closed the city gate, and alarmed the people. Revenue commissioner Nahaqu once concealed government horses, also forged additions to imperial commands, and also received from Prince Woji 1 jeweled belt and 160 ingots of notes. We deliberated and find their crimes warrant 107 strokes, dismissal from name, and expulsion to their home districts. It was approved. On renxu day privy council officials said: "The Yunnan affair is settled. 12th month, on wushen day, Shaanxi Branch Censorate censors Niegu Bo and Gao Tan memorialized in accusation: "This office's surveillance censor Chen Liang, relying on power and rampant with poison, favoritism and law-breaking — we request removal from office, confiscation of corrupt goods, and return to home district." An instruction said: "Though an amnesty has occurred, by the wind-and-banners precedent pursue and seize the patent; the remainder as memorialized." A gold tally was inscribed with text reading "Assisting loyalty and pursuing righteousness, upholding integrity and sharing achievement," granted to Western Regions Imperial Guard deputy commander-in-chief Qincha to honor his Hongqiao achievement at the beginning of Tiansli. On renzi day, Prince Hulachu was again ordered to return and guard Yunnan. On guichou day, Sadun presented 16 households of Rus'; they were compensated with 107 ingots of silver and 5,000 ingots of notes. Pasture lands of Qingchi and Nanpi counties of Hejian Route were granted for Rus' winter quarters, and official sheep pastured by Huli were still supplied to them. Henan-Hebei Surveillance associate commissioner Sengianu said: "Since antiquity seeking loyal ministers must be at the gate of filial sons. Now those serving at court — some 10 years without visiting parents — it is not that they lack thought for kin; truly the court has no system for granting leave to visit parents, yet there is prohibition against leaving office on one's own. Ancient statutes: for officeholders whose parents are within 300 li, once in 3 years a fixed provincial leave of 20 days was granted; for those without parents, once in 5 years tomb-visiting leave of 10 days was granted. By this reasoning, for parents from 300 li to 10,000 li, leave periods should be fixed according to distance; those who should visit parents but conceal and do not visit shall be punished. If falsely claiming leave to evade and cover crimes, the same penalty as falsely rushing to mourning." Censorate officials reported it; the central secretariat, Ministry of Rites, Ministry of Justice, and Hanlin, Academy of Scholarly Worthies, and Kuizhang Pavilion were ordered to deliberate. On dingsi day, rain froze on trees. On wuwu day, Western Regions prince Tultemür dispatched envoys presenting Western horses and grape wine. Advance grants of yearly allowance notes to the 4 night guards and various hidden-residence guard soldiers — 20 ingots per man. On gengshen day, Academy of Scholarly Worthies direct academician Dasi Man was dispatched to Zhending Yuhua Palace to sacrifice at the spirit halls of Ruizong and the Manifest Virtue and Sagely Empress Dowager. On xinyou day, Minister of War Yesubuhua and transmission court associate commissioner Hunabuhua were dispatched to welcome the Imperial Preceptor. An edict ordered central secretariat and censorate to dispatch officials to each circuit together with surveillance offices to record prisoners. On guihai day, rain froze on trees. Weapons were issued to the Eastern Campaign Martial Prince's headquarters. On dingmao day, censorate officials said: "Gansu Branch Secretariat associate grand councillor Yolu Temür is neither of Mongol ethnicity nor surname, and is dim regarding affairs; to let him hold overall military authority — we fear it is not fitting." An edict commanded the privy council not to let him command and transfer troops. On jisi day, censorate officials said: "Hedong Route surveillance associate commissioner Huqur Buqa; convening Yan-Nan Route surveillance commissioner Buyanqudu, Wang Shiyuan, and Hao Zhishan — the banners of law do not stand firm; they should be removed from office." Approved. Cui Weixiao of Ninghai Prefecture was honored for filial conduct. This year, prefectures subordinate to Zhending Route suffered flood; Jining and Henan 2 routes drought; great famine.
