The gist stated:
17
使
Formerly, after my imperial ancestor Emperor Wuzong passed away, my grandmother the empress dowager was misled by the wicked and caused my imperial father Emperor Mingzong to be enfeoffed and sent out to Yunnan. When Emperor Yingzong was murdered, the legitimate succession was gradually skewed. My imperial father, as the legitimate son of Wuzong, fled to dwell in the northern deserts. The princes and great ministers united in heart to support him and began the great enterprise. At that time, because the distance was near, Wenzong was first welcomed to provisionally oversee state affairs. Subsequently, knowing what was proper in heavenly principle and human relations, he borrowed the name of yielding the throne and brought up the imperial seal. My imperial father trusted him in good faith and at once bestowed upon him the crown prince's seal. Wenzong, long steeped in evil and unrepentant, at the very moment of going forth to welcome him in person plotted treason with his ministers Yelu Buqa, Yiliya, Mingli Dong'a, and others, causing my imperial father to die with resentment unavenged. Returning to mount the throne again, wishing to explain himself to the realm, he said only: how could the imperial carriage fail within a few days? When the realm heard of it, all gnashed their teeth in rage. He further plotted privately to pass the throne to his son. He fabricated wicked words and shifted blame onto Empress Babusha, saying that I was not the son of Mingzong, and thus caused me to be sent to dwell in a distant corner. The great enterprise of the ancestors was nearly not continued. Harbouring guilt within, he then killed Yiliya to silence witnesses. Heaven did not protect him, and punishment of death soon descended. My aunt Budashiri, relying on her power and arrogance, did not establish the heir of Mingzong but established his infant younger brother Yishan Timur. He too soon died young. The princes and great ministers, considering worth and seniority, supported me in ascending the throne. As for the great affairs of state that were not at my own disposal, how could they be enumerated one by one? Whenever I reflect that governance must be rooted in fulfilling filial piety and that no affair comes before rectifying names, I rely on the spirit of Heaven. The powerful traitors have been removed. To fulfill filial piety and rectify names brooks no further delay. Ever mindful of the boundless grace of nurture, how could I bear to forget the duty of an irreconcilable enemy? Past crimes cannot be punished to exhaustion. I order the Court of Imperial Sacrifices to remove Togh Toq's spirit tablet from the temple. Budashiri was originally my aunt by marriage, yet she secretly plotted with traitorous ministers, did not understand my intent, and presumptuously assumed the title of empress dowager. Tracing the calamities of her inner chambers, she estranged flesh and blood, and her crimes were especially grave. Measured by great righteousness, her exalted title is stripped away and she is transferred for settlement in Dong'an Prefecture. Although Yantughus was once young and immature, by principle he could hardly remain together with me. I will ultimately not fall into the error of the overturned cart and devote myself solely to cruelty. I only release him to Goryeo. At that time the traitorous ministers Yelu Buqa and Yiliya were already dead. Let Mingli Dong'a and others be punished according to the proper statutes.

In the first year of Zhizheng, on the new moon of the jiyou day of the first month of spring, the era name was changed. The edict stated:
25
殿
I reflect that in the way of emperors and kings, no virtue is greater than fulfilling filial piety, and no governance is greater than obtaining the worthy. I early endured many hardships and entered to continue the great succession. Looking up, I ponder the heavy trust the ancestors conferred, and in fear and vigilance I have exerted myself for eight years now. Sighing in remembrance of the imperial father, long toiling abroad, who had just received the great mandate when the realm was disappointed in its hopes, day and night I pursue my longing and do not forget it in my breast. Therefore on the fourth day of the tenth month of the sixth year of Zhiyuan, jade registers and a jade seal were presented to honor the imperial father as Emperor of Filial Sagacity, Sagely and Martial, of Sagacious Culture and Wisdom, who accords with Heaven and establishes the Way. Robed in ceremonial dress, I poured the libation in the Grand Chamber to display filial sincerity. On the sixth day of the eleventh month, reluctantly acceding to the request that the great rite's celebration was complete, I proceeded to the Hall of Great Brightness to receive the court's homage. From last spring, consulting the multitude, I appointed Mažiltai, director of the Bureau of Military Affairs, as grand preceptor and right chief minister to rectify the hundred officials and be close to the myriad people. Soon he submitted a petition of resignation and nursed illness in his private residence. Again and again I issued edicts urging him to take his post, but from spring to autumn his request grew firmer. I pitied his long labor and perceived his utmost sincerity. Unwilling to trouble him further with government, I had him released from state affairs while he remained grand preceptor. Toqto, director of the Bureau of Military Affairs, who in early years assisted me and proved loyal and steadfast, was then appointed right chief minister of the Secretariat; Jarlugchi Temür Buqa, who had served in government and whose fine achievements were well known, was made left chief minister of the Secretariat and concurrently recorded matters of military and state importance. The three dukes discuss the Way to assist my virtue; the two chancellors oversee government to aid my rule. Let the seventh year of Zhiyuan become the first year of Zhizheng, and begin anew with the realm.
