In the fifteenth year, on the new moon of wuwu in the first month of spring, Suosijian, chief minister of the Secretariat, was ordered to take charge of the Chief Steward's Office; Heisi, commissioner of the Palace Provisionery, was appointed chief minister of the Secretariat; Xu Youren, left vice director of the Henan branch secretariat, was appointed grand academician of the Hall of Gathered Worthies; and Qibayan Buhua, left vice director of the Liaoyang branch secretariat, was promoted to chief minister of that province. On the renxu day, Xindu, associate commissioner of the Court for the Spread of Governance, was appointed tutor of the Heir Apparent. On the guihai day, offerings were presented at the Imperial Ancestral Temple. On the jiazi day, Prince Toghan Temür died in the army, and five hundred ingots of paper currency were granted. Daotong, chief minister of the Jiangxi branch secretariat, was promoted to grand preceptor of state. On the wuchen day, the moon transgressed the Five Chariots constellation. On the xinwei day, the moon transgressed the Ghost mansion. Zheng Yan, professor of Confucian learning at the Great Ordo, submitted a memorial: "The Mongols are the root clan of the state and ought to be taught ritual propriety, yet they still follow their native customs, do not observe the three-year mourning, and take in succession their stepmothers, paternal aunts by marriage, elder brothers' wives, and sisters-in-law. This will surely invite ridicule from later ages and must be reformed and bound by ritual and law. No reply was made. On the bingzi day, Shangdu suffered famine, and twenty thousand shi of grain were distributed in relief sale. On the dingchou day, Ni Wenjun, a rebel general of Xu Shouhui, again captured Mianyang Prefecture; the Prince of Weishun Kuanchipuhua ordered the prince Bao'ennu and others, together with the Hunan marshal Asilan, to advance by land and water and attack him. When they reached Hanchuan the water was shallow; Wenjun used fire rafts to burn the boats, and Bao'ennu was killed. On the gengchen day, the three directorates-general of Renyu, Yunxu, and Shanggong were re-established. On the bingxu day, Datong Circuit suffered famine; ten thousand shi of grain were released and sold at reduced price. That month, an edict stated that Qiran, chief minister of the Huguang branch secretariat, had been dilatory in merit; his offices and ranks were stripped, and he was ordered to join the army and prove himself. An edict ordered Toghto placed at Yizhinay Circuit and the fields he had been granted confiscated. Hong Choulu, vice chief minister of the Henan branch secretariat, was ordered to defend Henan; Shulü Dorji, vice chief minister of the Shaanxi branch secretariat, was ordered to defend Tong Pass; the imperial prince Jayasili was ordered to defend Xingyuan; Arun Shah, vice chief minister of the Shaanxi branch secretariat, was ordered to defend Shangzhou; and Duolai, commissioner of the Bureau of Transmission, was ordered to defend Shandong. An edict ordered Prince Alatenashiri and Suosijian, chief minister of the Shaanxi branch secretariat, to consult and decide military affairs as circumstances required.

In the intercalary month, on the renyin day, garrison soldiers of the various guards were ordered to farm the lands around the capital; each man was granted five ingots of paper currency, and from that day he entered service and received two liang five qian of paper currency per day; cattle, seed, and farm implements were also supplied, and the Agribureau was ordered to have the supervising commander of ten thousand households in each unit oversee diligence and sloth. On the bingwu day, the moon transgressed the Heart mansion. On the bingchen day, Venus crossed the sky.

That month, Shangdu Circuit suffered famine, and an edict strictly forbade the sale of wine. Tash Temür, vice chief minister of the Henan branch secretariat, was ordered to lead the Shaanxi military forces under his former command and defend Henan. On the jiwei day in the second month, Liu Futong and others, coming from Dangshan along the river, welcomed Han Lin'er and installed him as emperor; he was also styled the Lesser Bright King; the capital was established at Bozhou; the state was named Song; and the era name Longfeng was adopted. His mother, Lady Yang, was made empress dowager; Du Zundao and Sheng Wenyu were made chief ministers; Luo Wensu and Liu Futong were made associate chief ministers; and Liu Liu was made director of the Bureau of Military Affairs; Timber from the Taiqing Palace in Luyi County was dismantled to build palace halls, and Zundao and the others each sent their sons to attend court. Zundao won favor and monopolized power; Liu Futong resented this and ordered armored soldiers to beat Zundao to death; Futong then became chief minister and later styled himself grand preceptor. On the bingyin day, Heisi, chief minister of the Secretariat, and Xu Youren, left vice director, were both appointed directors of the Classics Colloquium. On the wuchen day, Wangjianu, grand preceptor and censor-in-chief, was appointed right chief minister of the Secretariat; Dingzhu, chief minister of the Secretariat, was appointed left chief minister; and an edict was issued throughout the empire. On the gengwu day, Yaoyao, chief minister of the Henan branch secretariat, was appointed left chief minister of the Liaoyang branch secretariat. On the renshen day, a grand marshal's headquarters under the Huaidong and other circuits commissioner's office was established at Tianchang County to command the righteous-army commands of ten thousand households of Hao and Si and the righteous militia of Hongze and other places; wealthy households who volunteered to furnish five thousand able-bodied righteous militiamen were made commanders of ten thousand households, those furnishing five hundred were made commanders of a thousand households, and those furnishing one hundred were made commanders of a hundred households; appointment patents and plaques were also issued. On the bingzi day, Dash Temür was appointed chief minister of the Secretariat and ordered to take charge of the Chief Steward's Office; Heisi, chief minister of the Secretariat, was additionally appointed director of the Grand Agribureau. That month, Dong Quan, minister of the Ministry of Justice, and Huonichi, chief minister of the Jiangxi branch secretariat, were ordered to devote themselves exclusively to punitive campaigns and authorized to act as circumstances required; envoys were first sent with a partial amnesty, instructing them in blessings and calamities; if they surrendered, their original crimes would be pardoned; if they stubbornly refused to repent, attack would begin on a set day. In the third month, on the gengyin day, the moon transgressed the Five Chariots constellation. On the guisi day, Xu Shouhui's forces captured Xiangyang Circuit. On the jiawu day, Wangjianu was ordered to act as grand marshal, bearing the staff of authority to confer upon the crown prince Ayushiridara the jade register, grant him the nine-tassel cap and robes, and pay reverent visit to the Imperial Ancestral Temple. On the bingshen day, the moon transgressed the Fang mansion. On the xinchou day, at the memorial of the investigating censors, Toghto was placed at Zhenxi Road in Yunnan, Yeshan Temür at Diaomen in Sichuan, Toghto's eldest son Qara Jam at Suzhou, and his second son Sanbaonu at Lanzhou; their household property was also registered and confiscated. On the jiyou day, Zhongjianu, director of the Bureau of Military Affairs, was appointed director of the Classics Colloquium; and Niuwushigai, director of the Bureau of Military Affairs, was ordered to take charge of the Inner Secretariat Office. On the guichou day, Venus crossed the sky.

In summer, on the renxu day of the fourth month, a minister of the Secretariat said: "Because bandits and robbers have cut off communication in Jiangnan, offices everywhere lack incumbents; people should be sent to consult with officials of the provinces and branch censorate so that officials below the third rank in Guangdong, Guangxi, Haibei, and Hainan may be transferred by general reassignment; those below the fifth rank may first be notified and sent to their posts; the Jiangzhe branch secretariat should rotate assignments once every three years; and vacant offices in Fujian and other places should follow the same precedent. This was approved. The branch Bureau of Military Affairs at Zhangde and other places was ordered to add one associate director, one vice director, and one administrative aide each. On the guihai day, Dash Temür, chief minister of the Secretariat, was appointed director of the Classics Colloquium; the Bureau of Military Affairs was ordered to add one vice director and two administrative judges; and the branch Bureau of Military Affairs at Zhigu was ordered to add one vice director and one administrative aide. Jasaghursun, vice censor-in-chief, was appointed associate director of the Classics Colloquium. On the yichou day, Zangbu, right vice director of the Secretariat, and Wugusun Liangzhen, left vice director, were sent to branch administration at Zhangde. On the xinwei day, Bojianu, vice censor-in-chief, was appointed associate director of the Classics Colloquium; and Cheng Zun, deliberator of Secretariat affairs, was additionally appointed a Classics Colloquium official. On the guiyou day, Dingzhu, left chief minister, was appointed right chief minister; Hami, chief minister of the Secretariat, was appointed left chief minister; Sangge Shili, tutor of the Heir Apparent, was appointed chief minister of the Secretariat; and Xuexue was appointed censor-in-chief. On the dingchou day, Zhongjianu, director of the Bureau of Military Affairs, was promoted to grand preceptor. On the xinsi day, Prince Toghto died, and two hundred ingots of paper currency were granted. That month, the imperial carriage made its seasonal tour to Shangdu. An edict ordered Hanlin awaiting-edict Umar and Hall of Gathered Worthies awaiting-edict Sun Hui to win over Zhang Shicheng of Gaoyou, and still sent them bearing appointment patents, seals, and plaques to consult with the Prince of Zhennan Boluo Buhua and officials of the Huainan branch secretariat, the surveillance commission, and others on bestowing them. The Censorate impeached Lü Sicheng, left vice director of the Secretariat, and he was dismissed. An edict ordered the establishment of the Pacification and Southern Garrison Military-Civilian Prefecture in Sichuan and other places, and the conversion of the Sichuan Loyal and Filial Military-Civilian Prefecture into the Loyal and Filial Military-Civilian Pacification Commission; Panshun Prefecture was abolished and the Panshun Military-Civilian Pacification Commission was established in its place; The Yangmujia and Chounanwang native offices of Sichuan were abolished and the Loyal Righteousness Military-Civilian Pacification Commission was established in their place; and the Righteous Militia Command of Ten Thousand Households of Bianliang and other places was established.

In the fifth month, on the renchen day, Xiangyang Circuit was recovered. Investigating censors Yelihudu and others impeached Taibuhua, left chief minister of the Henan branch secretariat, for dilatory merit and oppressing the people; an edict stripped him of his offices and ranks and still ordered him to lead the Huo Chi Wen guard and follow the overall commander, Chief Minister Dashibadu'er, on the punitive advance; Dashibadu'er was to take overall command of all of Taibuhua's military forces. On the gengxu day, Ni Wenjun advanced from Mianyang and captured Zhongxing Circuit; the marshal Duo'erzhiban died in the fighting. That month, Yaozhu, chief minister of the Huainan branch secretariat, and Wang Yexian Dier, surveillance commissioner of Huaidong, were ordered to comfort and instruct Gaoyou. In the sixth month, on the bingchen day, Xuexue, censor-in-chief, was ordered to take charge of the Duannben Hall. On the guihai day, Venus crossed the sky. On the dingmao day, investigating censor Halintu impeached Wu Zhifang, grand academician of the Hall of Gathered Worthies and teacher of Toghto, together with his staff officer Heihan and chief secretary Huolichi, saying they all ought to have their honors revoked; this was approved. Investigating censors Waige and others cleared Lü Sicheng, left vice director of the Secretariat, and restored the appointment patent and jade belt previously revoked. On the wuchen day, Suosijian, chief minister of the Secretariat, was additionally appointed director of the Grand Agribureau; and Sangge Shili was appointed director of the Classics Colloquium. On the jisi day, the Prince of Jing'an Kuobuhua died without heirs; his nephew was ordered to inherit the enfeoffment as Prince of Jing'an. On the guiyou day, Dashibadu'er, chief minister of the Sichuan branch secretariat, was appointed chief minister of the Henan branch secretariat. On the yihai day, Umar, administrative judge of the Directorate of Palace Manufactures, was ordered to win over Hao, Si, and other places; and Puyan Temür, supervisor of the Insignia Office, was ordered to win over Mianyang and other places. Prince Daowu died in the army; two hundred ingots of paper currency were granted as funeral gifts. On the dingchou day, Baode Prefecture was struck by earthquake. On the jimao day, Tutu, chief minister of the Shaanxi branch secretariat, was granted the title of Qara Qan. On the gengchen day, the recluse Zheng Yu of Huizhou was summoned as Hanlin awaiting-edict; he did not come. Provincial officials of Jiang-Zhe said: "For the tax levies and other paper currency of the fifteenth year of Zhizheng, after deducting the tax grain and other paper currency already remitted by edict, compared with the annual precedent the sea-transport grain and paper currency disbursed are insufficient; we beg that sea transport be reduced to relieve the people's strength. The Ministry of Revenue fixed the tax grain for that year; apart from what was remitted, the grain of temples and monasteries and of fields granted by allotment was to be opened from storehouses in the tenth month and fully confiscated; For the shortfall in grain, one million five hundred thousand ingots of Zhiyuan notes converted at Zhongtong value were allocated to purchase one million five hundred thousand shi at places producing rice, to be stored in riverside granaries for dispatch as needed; this was approved. On the guiwei day, Shilimen, vice chief minister of the Secretariat, said: "The former Mongol Imperial College was established specifically to teach the sons of the four keshig and the officials of the various beloved-horse guards; now they should be instructed to enter study according to the former precedent, so that strict training and admonition may be enforced. This was approved. That month, the Great Ming Emperor raised an army, crossed the river from Hezhou, and captured Taiping Circuit. After the Red Turban demon bandits first stirred rebellion, commanderies and counties north and south fell in great numbers; therefore the Great Ming took them in succession. Jingzhou suffered great flooding. Aruhui, chief minister of the Huguang branch secretariat, was ordered to lead troops; together with Manzi Haiya, chief minister of the Huainan branch secretariat, and Wanzhebuhua, commissioner of the Huai-Xi Circuit Commissioner's Office, he was to attack Hezhou and other places with an army. Prince Zhierdanbo and Bulanxi, right vice director of the Huguang branch secretariat, were ordered to campaign against Henan. Yaozhu, chief minister of the Huguang branch secretariat, was made overall commander and ordered to lead the military forces of that province together with the armies of Yang Waner of Jiangzhou and Li Sheng of Huangzhou to defend Huguang. Nalin Hala, vice chief minister of the Jiang-Zhe branch secretariat, was ordered to take overall command of the naval command of ten thousand households and other forces, join Chief Minister Dingding of that province, and advance to attack Changzhou, Zhenjiang, and other places. Umar, administrative judge of the Directorate of Palace Manufactures, and Bashinu, supervisor of the Directorate of Palace Use, were ordered to win over Hao and Si; Taiping, left chief minister of the Huainan branch secretariat, was to assist them; Puyan Temür, supervisor of the Insignia Office, and Liezhan, Hanlin reviser, were ordered to win over Mianyang; Yushu Huer Tuhua, chief minister of the Sichuan branch secretariat, and others were to assist them. Sixty keshig guards including Danbo were ordered to follow Fushou, grand censor of the Jiangnan branch censorate, in defending Jiqing Circuit. King Duo'erzhi died in the army at Yangzhou; Prince Zhierdanbo was ordered to take overall command of his military forces.

In autumn, on the xinmao day of the seventh month, offerings were presented at the Imperial Ancestral Temple. On the renyin day, Ni Wenjun again captured Wuchang, Hanyang, and other places. That month, Prince Shilimen was ordered to hold Caozhou with troops; and a certain Huo Zhe of the Shandong Commissioner's Office was ordered to divide troops and garrison Yizhou, Juzhou, and other places. Da'er Ma Jianzang, director of the Bureau of Military Affairs, and Shala Ban, left vice director of the Sichuan branch secretariat, together with Liu Da'erma Shili, associate commissioner of the Hunan Pacification Commissioner's Office, were ordered to encamp at Zhongxing with troops, win over the various places, and with Prince Tulu and Yushu Huer Tuhua attack those who would not submit. Sangge, Yituhun, and Tutu, chief ministers of the Huguang branch secretariat, were ordered to defend Xiangyang; Halintu, vice chief minister, and Wang Tash Temür were ordered to defend Mianyang; if the bandits would not submit, they were immediately to advance troops and attack them. The Thousand-Household Office for Coastal Patrol on the Taizhou Sea Route was promoted to the Ten-Thousand-Household Office for Coastal Defense and Grain Transport on the Sea Route.

In the eighth month, on the gengshen day, the Righteous Militia Command of Ten Thousand Households of Nanyang and other places was ordered to recruit ten thousand Mao Hulu righteous militia and advance to attack Nanyang. On the wuchen day, Dash Temür, chief minister of the Secretariat, was appointed left chief minister of the Jiang-Zhe branch secretariat with authority to act as circumstances required; one thousand ingots of paper currency were granted. On the jiaxu day, Dielimishi, jarquchi of the Grand Imperial Clan Court, was appointed chief minister of the Gansu branch secretariat. On the wuyin day, Venus crossed the sky. In Yunnan, Sikewa and others submitted; his son Mangsan was sent with tribute goods, and the Pingmian Pacification Commission was established. In Sichuan, Xiang Sisheng submitted, and Anding Prefecture was reorganized as the Anding Military-Civilian Pacification Commission. That month, the emperor returned from Shangdu. An edict ordered Taiping, left chief minister of the Huaidong branch secretariat, to command all Huaidong forces in recovering fallen prefectures and counties; Aruhui, chief minister of the Huguang branch secretariat, was further ordered to place his Miao troops under Taiping's command. Military household commissions for the Wuzhe Barbarian, Qielimi, and other regions were established at Ha'erfen. Prince Kuancha'erban was ordered to hold Xingyuan; Wanzh Temür, pacification commissioner of Yongchang, was ordered to suppress the Western Barbarian rebels. Manzi Haiya, chief minister of the Huaidong branch secretariat, and Banzhuma, associate director of the Bureau of Military Affairs, and others were ordered to hold the line from Wuhu to the south bank of Zhenjiang and, together with Aruhui's forces, jointly protect the Jiangnan branch censorate. Dashibatu'er was ordered to deploy the Miao troops under Bulanxi, left vice director of the Huguang branch secretariat, at his discretion; Buyan Temür, chief minister of the Jiangzhe branch secretariat, was ordered to defend Qi, Huang, Lanxi, and other places. In the ninth month, on the guiwei day, Suosijian was ordered to take charge of the Martial Guard. Niudigai, who directed the affairs of the Northern branch bureau of military affairs, was appointed associate chief minister of the Secretariat. On the yiyou day, a branch sea-route defense and grain-transport military household commission was established at Pingjiang Circuit. On the jichou day, Venus transgressed the Supreme Palace Enclosure. On the xinmao day, Secretary Director Dalan was ordered to supervise sacrifices at the spirit hall of Empress Dowager Biej; Zhixian Temür, director of the Bureau of Military Affairs, was ordered to supervise sacrifices at the spirit hall of Shizu; and Manzi, commissioner of the Bureau of Buddhist Affairs, was ordered to supervise sacrifices at the spirit halls of Yuzong and Yingzong. On the jihai day, Ni Wenjun besieged Yuezhou Circuit. On the renzi day, Sangge Shili was ordered to take charge of the Hall of Propagating Culture; Lü Sicheng was appointed lecturer to the Classics Colloquium; and Xu Youren, grand academician of the Hall of Gathered Worthies, was additionally appointed tutor to the crown prince. That month, Toghto was relocated to Aqingqi, and Dashibatu'er was ordered to move his army to Chenliu.

In winter, the tenth month, on the dingsi day, the Huaidong branch bureau of military affairs was established at Yangzhou. On the jiwei day, the moon transgressed the Ramparts. On the jiazi day, Sabu'er and Wang Antong, ministers of the Ministries of War and Works, were ordered to issue one hundred sixty-five gold and silver plaques to righteous-militia officers of the Huaidong Pacification Commission and other offices. Hami was ordered to head the Grand Agribureau. The emperor said to Right Chief Minister Dingzhu and others: "Revering Heaven and Earth and honoring the ancestors are weighty matters. In recent years these rites have been neglected. A propitious day should be chosen; I shall personally sacrifice at the suburban altar and the ancestral temple, striving for utmost sincerity and reverence without needless elaboration. You should discuss the ritual code and follow the simpler procedures." Right Vice Director Walan and Left Vice Director Lü Sicheng were then ordered to take charge of the matter. Baizhu, right vice director of the Secretariat, was appointed associate chief minister. On the gengwu day, Kong Kejian, hereditary Duke Yansheng, was appointed associate director of the Court of Imperial Sacrifices; Kejian's son Xixue was appointed hereditary Duke Yansheng. On the guiyou day, the moon transgressed Xuanyuan. Hami memorialized: "In the suburban sacrifice, Taizu should be the associated spirit. When the emperor leaves the palace and reaches the suburban sacrificial site, he should ride in ordinary dress on horseback, without inner or outer guard of honor or court entertainers; he should observe seven days of abstinence — four days of general abstinence in a separate hall, and three days of strict abstinence, two in the western tent hall of the Great Bright Hall and one at the southern suburban sacrificial site." On the bingzi day, because of the suburban sacrifice, Crown Prince Ayushiridara was ordered to announce the sacrifice at the Imperial Ancestral Temple. On the jimao day, Qingtong, academician-expositor of the Hanlin Academy, was appointed chief minister of the Huaidong branch secretariat. The Yellow River naval military household commission was established at Xiaoqingkou.

In the eleventh month, on the jiashen day, Mars transgressed the Di mansion. On the gengyin day, Saturn transgressed the Jing mansion. On the renchen day, the emperor personally sacrificed to the Supreme Lord at the Southern Suburb; Crown Prince Ayushiridara served as secondary offerer, and Acting Grand Commandant and Right Chief Minister Dingzhu served as final offerer. On the jiawu day, Taibuhua was appointed left chief minister of the Huguang branch secretariat to command forces in recruiting and suppressing Huguang, Mianyang, and other regions; all Huguang and Jingxiang armies were placed under his command; the originally confiscated appointment patent for chief minister of the Henan branch secretariat was restored, and merit-reward patents and gold and silver plaques were also granted. On the wuxu day, peach and apricot blossoms appeared in Jiexiu County. On the jihai day, the moon transgressed the Ghost mansion. On the wushen day, Right Chief Minister Dingzhu resigned on grounds of illness; he was ordered to remain at home as grand preceptor and receive medical treatment. On the gengxu day, rebels captured Raozhou Circuit. On the xinhai day, the King of Goryeo, Boyan Temür, was granted the title of Meritorious Minister Who Is Kind, Assists Righteousness, Proclaims Loyalty, Serves the State, Displays Grace, and Pacifies the Distant. That month, Dashibatu'er attacked the rebels at Jiahe and routed them utterly. Rebels captured Huaiqing; Buhua, right vice director of the Henan branch secretariat, was ordered to suppress them. Guizhou in Huguang was transferred to the jurisdiction of the Sichuan branch secretariat.

In the twelfth month, on the new moon of renzi, Mars transgressed the Fang mansion. A branch-province seal of the Huguang branch secretariat was issued. On the dingsi day, Yuelun Shibuhua and Chen Jingbo, vice chief ministers of the Secretariat, were ordered to branch out to Zhangde. On the guihai day, the Loyalty and Righteousness and Loyalty and Diligence military household commissions were established at Suzhou and Wu'an Prefecture. On the jisi day, because military provisions and supplies for the various prefectures were heavy and numerous, the Ministry of Revenue was ordered to print six million ingots of next year's paper currency notes for distribution. On the renshen day, Tieli Temür and Walan, associate chief minister and right vice director, were both appointed lecturers to the Classics Colloquium; Deliberator Ding Haoli was additionally appointed a Classics Colloquium officer. On the yihai day, because warfare had risen throughout the realm, an edict of self-reproach was issued and a general amnesty was proclaimed. That month, Dashibatu'er utterly defeated Liu Futong and others at Taikang, then besieged Bozhou; the false Song ruler fled to Anfeng. The Xingyuan and other pacification commissions' commandant-in-chief's office was established at Xingyuan Circuit. That year, blood rained in Jizhou. An edict said: "Wherever there are paddy fields, a grand military-agribureau should be established to recruit laborers; when there is an alarm, troops should advance and attack at the first opportunity; when there is no alarm, they should plant and sow." An edict ordered dredging of the canals within the Inner Palace; the eunuch Yexian Temür, associate director of the Capital Garrison, was ordered to supervise the work. Yexian Temür said: "Since the eleventh year, the realm has been troubled by many affairs; construction projects should not be undertaken." The emperor was enraged and ordered him sent as envoy to Goryeo; the eunuch Dashiman was instead ordered to supervise the work. On the wuzi day, the emperor personally offered at the Imperial Ancestral Temple. Tieli Temür, associate chief minister of the Secretariat, was ordered to take charge of the Directorate of the Imperial Academy. On the jichou day, the moon transgressed the Mao mansion. On the dingyou day, Grand Preceptor Dingzhu resigned on grounds of illness, and Grand Commandant and Chief of the Grand Imperial Clan Yuekuo Cha'er resigned on grounds of wounds received on campaign; neither request was granted. On the yihai day, an edict ordered Grand Commandant Ajila to open his own office and establish a staff. On the yisi day, Yao Yao, left chief minister of the Liaoyang branch secretariat, was appointed director of the Household of the Heir Apparent; Duolie Temür, academician-expositor of the Hanlin Academy, was appointed associate director of the Household of the Heir Apparent. On the bingzi day, Shili Men, director of the Bureau of Military Affairs, was additionally appointed director of the Grand Storehouse. On the wushen day, the Yunnan native official Alu submitted; he sent his nephew Saiwo with tribute goods. On the gengxu day, Left Chief Minister Hami was dismissed. On the xinhai day, Censor-in-Chief Xuexue was also dismissed; Suosijian was appointed censor-in-chief. Dingzhu was again appointed right chief minister. That month, Jizhou was shaken by earthquake. Ni Wenjun established a false capital at Hanyang and welcomed Xu Shouhui to occupy it.

In the second month, on the guiyou day, Tolu Temür resigned his post. The request was not granted. Suosijian impeached Hami and his brother Xuexue for their crimes; the emperor said: "Although the Hami brothers are guilty, they have long served me and shared the same wet nurse as my brother, Emperor Yilin Zhiban; for the time being, let their punishment be deferred and send them on campaign to redeem themselves by merit." On the jiayin day, Right Chief Minister Dingzhu was ordered to remain as before in the post of grand preceptor, with full authority over all Secretariat affairs; an edict was issued throughout the realm. On the bingchen day, because since the rise of warfare Boluohua, Prince of Pacifying the South, had led keshig guards in suppressing rebels and repeatedly achieved battle merit, he was granted ten thousand ingots of paper currency. Dingzhu and Sangge Shili, associate chief minister, and others again memorialized the crimes of the Hami brothers; Hami was then ordered exiled to Huizhou for resettlement, Xuexue to Zhaozhou for resettlement, and soon afterward both were beaten to death. On the renxu day, Bosali, director of the Household of the Heir Apparent, resigned his post. On the yichou day, melting down and selling copper cash was prohibited. On the bingyin day, the Hanlin Academy of the National History and the Court of Imperial Sacrifices were ordered to determine posthumous titles and princely ranks for meritorious ministers of three generations of Empress Qi's clan. On the jiaxu day, the chief officials of the Six Ministries, the Grand Agribureau, the two halls of the Hall of Gathered Worthies and Hanlin Academy of the National History, the Court of Imperial Sacrifices, the Secretariat, the Office for the Veneration of Culture, the Directorate of the Imperial Academy, the Directorate of Waterways, the Office of Ceremonial Attendants, and other offices were each ordered to recommend one person capable of serving as prefect or magistrate, without restriction to Mongols, semuren, Han, or southerners; the Secretariat was to appoint them after deliberation; if any appointee harmed the people or accepted bribes in office, the recommending official would be demoted according to the gravity of the matter. Manman was made Prince of Jing'an; a gold seal was granted, and tutors and other officials were established. On the jimao day, Yang Junmin, erudite of the Hall of Gathered Worthies, was ordered to perform sacrifices at the Confucian temple in Qufu and also to repair the temple buildings. An edict proclaimed: "The salt laws of Shandong must not be obstructed or undermined by soldiers or civilians." Dingzhu was granted thirty dulanchi and keshig guards, with clothing, provisions, horses, and fodder supplied. That month, Zhang Shicheng of Gaoyou seized Pingjiang Circuit and held it; he changed Pingjiang Circuit to Longping Prefecture, then seized Huzhou, Songjiang, and Changzhou.

In the third month, on the xinsi day, the Wine-Tax Intendant's Office was reestablished. Tieli Temür, associate chief minister of the Secretariat, and Cheng Zun, vice chief minister, and others were ordered to deliberate on the paper currency system. On the renwu day, Xu Shouhui again raided Xiangyang. On the guiwei day, censorial officials said: "Government horse-grazing pastures have all been seized by powerful families. Henceforth, aside from what the Guiyun Directorate is currently cultivating, the remainder should all be surveyed and turned over; the Grand Agribureau should recruit people to reclaim and cultivate them, and the annual rent and tax should be collected to support state revenue." The proposal was approved. On the dinghai day, because troops would march out this autumn, an edict ordered compulsory purchase of sixty thousand horses. On the wuzi day, Temür Buhua, Prince of Proclaiming and Yielding, and Kuancha Puhua, Prince of Weishun, were ordered to hold Huaiqing Circuit with troops; each was granted one ingot of gold, five ingots of silver, nine bolts of silks and fabrics, and two thousand ingots of paper currency. On the gengyin day, Great Ming troops took Jiqing Circuit; Fushou, censor-in-chief of the Jiangnan branch censorate, died in the fighting. On the bingshen day, Ni Wenjun seized Changde Circuit; Andu'la, overall military commander, fled. Suosijian was ordered to take charge of the Chenghui Temple. On the dingyou day, a branch bureau of military affairs was established at Hangzhou. Dash Temür, left chief minister of the Jiangzhe branch secretariat, was additionally ordered to act as director of the branch bureau of military affairs, to command all armies; officials of the secretariat, bureau, and other offices were all to obey his orders; in rewarding merit, punishing crime, accepting surrender, and suppressing rebellion, he was permitted to act at discretion. Great Ming troops captured Zhenjiang Circuit. On the wushen day, Fang Guozhen submitted again and was appointed commander of ten thousand for sea-route grain transport and grain-shipping transport, concurrently serving as commander of ten thousand for defending sea-route grain transport. His elder brother Fang Guozhang was appointed prefect of Quzhou Circuit, with concurrent responsibility for defending the sea routes. That month, two suns appeared to oscillate against each other in the sky.

On the dingsi day, left chief minister Tosem was ordered to direct the Classics Colloquium, while Wulianghatai, chief minister of the Secretariat, and Censor-in-Chief Puhua were both appointed associate directors of the Classics Colloquium. On the gengshen day, Bolanxi, left vice director of the Henan branch secretariat, was appointed chief minister of the Huguang branch secretariat, and Dashibadu'er was advanced to Grand Master of Golden Countersign and Purple Radiance. On the bingyin day, Prince Ayanban was ordered to join officials of the Shaanxi branch secretariat in a joint campaign against Jun, Fang, and Nanyang. Qibayan Buhua, chief minister of the Liaoyang branch secretariat, was appointed grand steward. On the dingmao day, Duoduo, censor-in-chief of the Shaanxi branch censorate, was appointed left chief minister of the Shaanxi branch secretariat, and Yao Yao, director of the Grand Agribureau, was appointed left chief minister of the Liaoyang branch secretariat. Shilimen, director of the Bureau of Military Affairs, was ordered to establish a branch office at Jining, and Tuotuo, academician-expositor of the Hanlin Academy, was appointed associate director of the Household of the Heir Apparent. On the renshen day, Prince Arad Temür was ordered to consult with officials of the Shaanxi branch secretariat on military affairs and to attack and suppress as circumstances required. On the jimao day, Wulianghatai was ordered to serve concurrently as tutor to the heir apparent. That month, the emperor made his seasonal tour to Shangdu.

On the bingshen day, Ni Wenjun captured Li Prefecture. On the dingyou day, the moon transgressed the Encampment Wall formation. On the yisi day, bandits raided Chen Prefecture; the defending general Heshang routed them with local militia. In the sixth month, on the jiayin day, San Danba, chief minister of the Jiangzhe branch secretariat, and Yang Wanze, vice chief minister, led troops to defend Jiaxing Circuit against Zhang Shicheng. On the yichou day, Great Ming troops captured Guangde Circuit.

On the dingyou day, the moon transgressed the Encampment Wall formation. That month, Zhang Shicheng dispatched troops and captured Hangzhou; Zuo Danashiri, chief minister of the Jiangzhe branch secretariat, died in battle, Chief Minister Dash Temür fled, and Yang Wanze together with Commander of Ten Thousand Puxiannu routed the enemy and recovered the city.

On the jiwei day, bandits invaded Henan Prefecture Circuit; Hong Choulü, vice chief minister, routed them with troops. On the dingmao day, the moon transgressed the Mao mansion. On the gengwu day, Ni Wenjun captured Heng Prefecture; Marshal Zhen Chongfu died in battle. On the jiaxu day, a comet appeared at the Extended Net mansion, bluish-white in color with its tail pointing southwest and more than a foot in length; it remained visible until the wuwu day of the twelfth month. That month, the emperor returned from Shangdu. The Yellow River burst its banks and Shandong suffered catastrophic flooding. In the ninth month, on the gengchen day, the bandits Li Wu and Cui De of Ru and Ying broke through Tong Pass; Vice Chief Minister Shulu Jie died in battle. On the renwu day, Prince Arad Temür and Dingzhu, associate director of the Bureau of Military Affairs, led troops and recovered Tong Pass; Bojianu, chief minister of the Henan branch secretariat, garrisoned it with troops. On the bingshen day, Tong Pass fell again and Bojianu's army was routed; Prince Arad Temür retook it with troops, and Li Wu and Cui De were defeated and fled. On the wuxu day, bandits captured Shaan Prefecture and Guo Prefecture. An edict restored Grand Marshal Nalin as censor-in-chief of the Jiangnan branch censorate and moved the branch censorate's seat to Shaoxing. That month, Chaghan Temür recovered Shaan Prefecture and Guo Prefecture and again routed bandit troops at Pinglu and Anyi; for his merit he was promoted from minister of the Bureau of War to vice director of the Hebei branch bureau of military affairs.

In winter, on the dingwei day of the tenth month, in Daming Circuit a fireball streaked from the southeast with a tail like a trailing broom; it struck the earth with a sound as flames blazed vigorously, and after a long while subsided into a lustrous bluish-black stone shaped like a dog's head, its fracture surface like a fresh cut; an order was issued to store it in the treasury. On the renchen day, the moon transgressed the Well mansion. That month, an edict dismissed Grand Marshal Yeshan Temür from office.

In the eleventh month, on the bingxu day, Laodisha and Darimashi were both appointed superintendents of the Household of the Heir Apparent. On the dinghai day, a meteor as large as a wine cup, bluish-white in color with a tail trace of more than five feet, blazed so brightly as to illuminate the ground; it rose from the northeast, traveled southeastward, and vanished near the turbid quarter with a sound like thunder. On the renchen day, the moon transgressed the Well mansion.

That month, Henan fell; Aipu, vice censor of the Henan Surveillance Commission, fled. The Henan Surveillance Commission was relocated to Yi Prefecture, and a branch bureau of military affairs was also established there, with the commandery of horse-and-troop officers placed under its authority.

In the twelfth month, Ni Wenjun captured Yue Prefecture and killed Daitemür, son of the Prince of Weishun. Yeshan Temür, vice chief minister of Huguang, together with Deng Zusheng, commander of ten thousand of the Left River Righteous Militia, combined forces and recovered Heng Prefecture. That year, an edict proclaimed: "In coastal prefectures and counties ravaged and plundered by bandits, land rent shall be remitted for three years. Silks shall be granted to the aged. Taibuhua, left chief minister of the Henan branch secretariat, garrisoned troops at Nanyang, Song, Ru, and other prefectures; rebel commoners all submitted, and his army's strength greatly revived. Li Shangjiong, supervising censor of the Shaanxi branch censorate, submitted the "Urgent Discourse on the Strategic Advantages of the Guanzhong Region," twelve items in all. An order was issued for the Grand Agribureau to establish garrison farms at Xiong and Ba prefectures to supply grain to the capital, designated as capital provisions.
