In the twenty-first year, on the new moon of guichou in the first month of spring, an edict pardoned all under Heaven. The Secretariat ordered associate chief minister Qishi to tell Bolad Temür to stand down and return to his post, and sent envoys to Chaghan Temür with the same order. Basarlabuhua had long served in Guangdong as surveillance commissioner and ruled as he pleased; an edict therefore appointed Wanzhedu and others to the surveillance commission and transferred Basarlabuhua to attendant censor. Basarlabuhua refused the transfer; furious that Wanzhedu and the others had replaced him, he framed them on false charges and had them all killed, sparing only surveillance commissioner Dong Yue, who was spared after desperate pleas.

Earlier Duke of Ji Toγaqu had asked to halt construction at the three palaces; the emperor halved the military artisans and returned them to palace guard service, but construction continued — which is why Shizhan began his memorial with this point. The heir apparent once sat in Qingning Hall with long mats laid out for Tibetan, Korean, and other monks seated in rows. The heir apparent said: "Master Li Haowen has taught me the Confucian classics for years, yet I still do not understand them. Yet listening to Buddhist teaching, I can grasp it in a single night." He thereafter came to favor Buddhist learning. On slander, the emperor deposed the King of Korea Bayan Temür and installed Tash Temür in his place. Koreans submitted memorials explaining why the old king should not have been deposed and the new king should not have been enthroned. Empress Gi's kinsmen in Korea had grown arrogant on imperial favor; Bayan Temür repeatedly warned them without effect, and the King of Korea eventually exterminated the entire Gi clan. The empress told the heir apparent: "You are grown now — why will you not avenge me!" A younger brother of the King of Korea was then detained at the capital; they planned to install Tash Temür as king, make Gi clansman Sanbaonu heir apparent, and Cui Temür, associate director of the Directorate of Palace Buildings, chief minister, and sent ten thousand troops to escort him home; at the Yalu they were defeated by Korean forces, and only seventeen horsemen returned to the capital. On the wushen day, Bolad Temür sent Zhuzhen and others into Shaanxi and seized the provincial capital. Dash Temür, right vice director of the Shaanxi branch secretariat, was at odds with the regional inspection commission and, fearing that Köke Temür would take Shaanxi, secretly joined Bolad Temür, let Zhuzhen into the city, and seized the seals of censor-in-chief Wanzhe Temür, investigating censor Zhang Kezun, and others.
