That night, a meteor as large as a wine cup, red in color, with a tail-trail approximately more than five feet in length, its light illuminating the ground, rose from beside the Celestial Ford and set south of the Withdrawn Palace. On the day gengxu, Venus crossed the sky. On the day renzi, Mars entered and encroached upon the Corpse Accumulation vapor of the Ghost mansion. On the day guichou, Venus crossed the sky. On the day jiayin, the same phenomenon occurred. On the first day (bingchen) of the eighth month in the second year of Yuantong, Venus crossed the sky. On the days dingsi, wuwu, and jiwei, the same phenomenon occurred. On the days guihai, bingyin, wuchen, xinwei, renshen, guiyou, jiaxu, dingchou, and jimao, the same phenomenon occurred. In the fifth month of the third year of Zhiyuan, on the day renyin, Venus encroached upon the northeastern star of the Ghost mansion. On the day yisi, the moon encroached upon the left horn of the Chariot. On the day wushen, Venus was seen in daylight. On the day renzi, the moon encroached upon the rear star of the Heart mansion. On the day wuwu, Venus was seen in daylight. On the day jiwei, the moon encroached upon the sixth star of the western Encampment Wall Formation. On the day xinyou, Venus was seen in daylight. On the day dingmao, a comet appeared in the northeast, as large as the Celestial Boat star, white in color, about a foot in length, with its tail pointing southwest, measured at five degrees of the Mao mansion. In the sixth month of the third year of Zhiyuan, on the day gengwu, Venus crossed the sky. On the day xinwei, the same phenomenon occurred. On the day jiaxu, the same phenomenon occurred again. On the day yihai, Venus encroached upon the upper star of the Spiritual Terrace. On the day jimao, Venus crossed the sky. That night, Venus encroached upon the Supreme General of the western rampart of the Supreme Palace Enclosure. On the day renwu, Venus was seen in daylight, and the moon encroached upon the tip star of the Bulge of the Dipper mansion. On the day dinghai, Venus encroached upon the Right Law-enforcer of the Supreme Palace Enclosure. On the day jichou, Venus was seen in daylight. On the day gengyin, the same phenomenon occurred. The comet was first seen on the day dingmao in the fifth month; on wuchen it moved toward the southwest, growing swifter day by day. By the day xinwei in the sixth month its rays had lengthened to about two feet. On dingchou it swept past the Supreme Chancellor; on jimao its brilliance intensified further, to about three feet in length. It entered the Round Guard. On renwu it swept through the Canopy of State and the Pillar stars; on yiyou it swept past the great star of the Hook Array and the Celestial Thearch; on bingxu it pierced the Four Assistants and passed through the Pivot heart. On jiawu it exited the Round Guard; on dingyou it exited the Purple Forbidden Enclosure. On wuxu it encroached upon the Piercing Ring and swept through the Heavenly Records. In the seventh month, on gengzi it swept through the River Quarter; on guimao it passed Zheng and Jin and entered the Celestial Market Enclosure. On bingwu it swept through the Array of Shops. On jiyou the moon's light was so bright that the comet's rays could barely be discerned; it exited the Celestial Market Enclosure and swept past the Liang star. By xinyou its brilliance had dwindled; it was observed above the Key and Lock of the Room mansion, due west of the central star of the Punishment star, but was difficult to measure as it moved gradually southward. By this time it had been visible for sixty-three days in all, passing through fifteen lodgings from the Mao to the Room before it vanished. On the day jiaxu, the moon encroached upon the rear star of the Heart mansion. In the ninth month of the third year of Zhiyuan, on the day jihai, Mars encroached upon the second star west of the Dipper mansion. On the day jiachen, the moon encroached upon the second star of the Bulge of the Dipper mansion. On the day dingwei, the moon encroached upon the first star of the western Encampment Wall Formation. On the day bingwu, Mars encroached upon the Supreme General of the western rampart of the Supreme Palace Enclosure. In the eleventh month of the twenty-sixth year of Zhizheng, on the day yiyou, Venus encroached upon Saturn. On the day dinghai, Venus encroached upon the first star north of the Room mansion. On the day wuzi, Mars encroached upon the Supreme Minister of the eastern rampart of the Supreme Palace Enclosure, and Venus encroached upon the Key and Lock. On the day jichou, a meteor as large as a wine cup split into three stars closely following one another—the front star blue and bright, the rear two red—with a tail-trail approximately more than two zhang in length; it rose from the northeast, traveled slowly southwestward, and vanished near the Turbid Pool. On the day gengyin, the moon encroached upon the fourth star north of the right thigh of the Net mansion. On the day bingshen, Venus, Jupiter, and Mercury gathered in the Tail mansion.
