福康安督兵剿石峰堡，令金鼇防底店護運道。 When Fuk'anggan took command against Shifeng Fort, he stationed Jin'ao at Didian to secure the supply line.

其出師台灣，師至，爽文已就俘，福康安令德禧屯竹仔港防賊逸。 On the Taiwan expedition the army arrived only after Shuangwen had been taken; Fuk'anggan stationed Dexi at Zhuzai Harbor to block any rebel escape by sea.

上以師無功，令大學士阿桂、尚書福康安出視師。 Because the campaign stalled, the emperor sent Grand Secretary Agui and Minister Fuk'anggan to take command in the field.

上責剛塔信賊妄語搖軍心，令福康安傳諭，奪剛塔職，逮送京師。 The emperor accused him of crediting rebel bluster and unsettling the troops, had Fuk'anggan relay the edict, stripped him of rank, and sent him under arrest to the capital.

尋雲貴總督福康安來督師，晟駐辰州治軍需，分兵屯諸要隘，緝獲姦匪百戶楊國安父子解京，詔嘉其治軍鎮靜，下部議敘。 When Governor-General Fukang'an of Yunnan-Guizhou arrived to take command, Cheng stayed at Chenzhou to handle logistics, posted troops at the critical passes, and sent the collaborator Yang Guo'an and his son to Beijing in chains. The court praised his steady conduct of the campaign and referred his case for a merit citation.

是年，福康安、和琳先後卒於軍，晟偕額勒登保、德楞泰等剿撫，加總督銜。 That year Fukang'an and Helin died one after another in camp. Cheng worked with Eledengbao, Delengtai, and others to suppress and pacify the rebels, and was given governor-general rank.
