王瑒字子璵，司空沖之第十二子也。 Wang Yang, whose style name was Ziyu, was the twelfth son of Wang Chongzhi, minister of works.

元帝承制，徵為中書侍郎，直殿省，仍掌相府管記。 When Emperor Yuan exercised provisional authority, he summoned Wang Yang as Secretariat attendant; Yang served in the palace offices and managed records for the chancellery.

貞陽侯僭位，以敬帝為太子，授瑒散騎常侍，侍東宮。 When the Marquis of Zhenyang usurped the throne and made Emperor Jing crown prince, Yang was appointed attendant-in-ordinary of the scattered cavalry and assigned to serve in the Eastern Palace.

高祖入輔，以為司徒左長史。 When the Founder entered the capital as regent, Yang was appointed left chief clerk of the ministry of education.

世祖嗣位，授散騎常侍，領太子庶子，侍東宮。 When Emperor Wen succeeded to the throne, Yang was granted the rank of attendant-in-ordinary of the scattered cavalry, appointed chief tutor to the heir apparent, and attended the eastern palace.

瑒為侍中六載，父沖嘗為瑒辭領中庶子，世祖顧謂沖曰：「所以久留瑒於承華，政欲使太子微有瑒風法耳。」 Yang had served as palace attendant for six years. His father Chong once asked that Yang be relieved of the concurrent post of junior tutor. Emperor Wen turned to Chong and said, 'The reason I have kept Yang at Chenghua so long is simply that I want the heir apparent to absorb even a little of Yang's bearing and standards.'

廢帝嗣位，以侍中領左驍騎將軍。 When the deposed emperor succeeded to the throne, Yang served as palace attendant while commanding the left valiant cavalry.

高宗即位，太建元年，復除侍中，領左驍騎將軍。 When Emperor Xuan took the throne, in the first year of Taijian Yang was again appointed palace attendant and commander of the left valiant cavalry.

瑒性寬和，及居選職，務在清靜，謹守文案，無所抑揚。 Yang was mild and conciliatory by nature. In personnel selection he aimed at quiet correctness, kept strictly to the records, and made no arbitrary promotions or demotions.

瑒兄弟三十餘人，居家篤睦，每歲時饋遺，遍及近親，敦誘諸弟，並稟其規訓。 Yang had more than thirty brothers. At home they lived in deep harmony; at each season they exchanged gifts that reached all their close kin. He earnestly guided his younger brothers, and all followed his rules and instruction.

諡曰光子。 His posthumous title was Guangzi.

瑒第十三弟瑜，字子珪，亦知名，美容儀，早歷清顯，年（五）〔三〕十，官至侍中。 Yang's thirteenth younger brother Yu, styled Zigui, was also well known. Handsome in bearing, he early held prestigious clean posts and by thirty had reached palace attendant.

太建初，入為五兵尚書，與左僕射徐陵、特進周弘正、度支尚書王瑒、[1]散騎常侍袁憲俱侍東宮。 At the start of Taijian (569) he entered court as minister of the five armies, and with left vice director Xu Ling, special emeritus Zhou Hongzheng, minister of revenue Wang Chang, [1] and scattered-cavalry regular attendant Yuan Xian he attended the eastern palace together.
