建武中，又出爲平西蕭遙欣長史、南郡太守。 In Jianwu he again went out as staff officer to Pingxi general Xiao Yaoqin and Nanjun prefect.

時明帝諸子幼弱，內親則仗遙欣兄弟，外親則倚后弟劉暄、內弟江祏。 The Ming Emperor's sons were still young; inside the palace he leaned on the Yaoqin brothers, outside on the empress's brother Liu Xuan and her brother-in-law Jiang Shi.

遙欣之鎮江陵也，意寄甚隆； When Yaoqin held Jiangling, trust in him ran deep;

而遙欣至州，多招賓客，厚自封殖，明帝甚惡之。 but in the province he gathered guests and grew fat on graft, and the Ming Emperor came to hate him.

季連族甥琅邪王會爲遙欣諮議參軍，美容貌，頗才辯，遙欣遇之甚厚。 Lijian's clan nephew Wang Hui of Langya was Yaoqin's advising staff officer—handsome and sharp-tongued; Yaoqin favored him.

會多所慠忽，於公座與遙欣競侮季連，季連憾之，乃密表明帝，稱遙欣有異迹。 Hui was insolent; before the assembly he and Yaoqin mocked Lijian together. Lijian nursed the grudge and secretly told the Ming Emperor that Yaoqin showed suspicious signs.

明帝納焉，乃以遙欣爲雍州刺史。 The emperor believed him and made Yaoqin Yongzhou inspector.

明帝心德季連，四年，以爲輔國將軍、益州刺史，令據遙欣上流。 Grateful to Lijian, in year four the emperor made him Supporting-the-State General and Yizhou inspector, set to hold the upper river against Yaoqin.
