中書舍人綦母珍之、朱隆之，直閤將軍曹道剛、周奉叔，竝爲帝羽翼。 Qimu Zhenzhi and Zhu Longzhi, gentlemen of the secretariat, and Cao Daogang and Zhou Fengshu, direct-pavilion generals—all were the emperor's wings.

二十二日壬辰，使蕭諶、坦之等於省誅曹道剛、朱隆之等，率兵自尚書入雲龍門，戎服加朱衣於上。 On the twenty-second, day renchen, he sent Xiao Chen, Tanzhi, and others to kill Cao Daogang and Zhu Longzhi at the Secretariat, then led troops from the Secretariat through the Cloud Dragon Gate—armor under scarlet robes.

上遣中書舍人呂文顯、直閤將軍曹道剛領齋仗五百人收奐。 The emperor sent Palace Gentleman Lu Wenxian and Direct Gate General Cao Daogang with five hundred palace guards to arrest Huan.

女婿殷叡懼禍，謂奐曰：「曹、呂今來，旣不見真敕，恐爲姦變，政宜錄取，馳啓聞耳。」 His son-in-law Yin Rui, fearing disaster, said to Huan, "Cao and Lu have come without showing the true decree—I fear treachery; you should arrest them at once and send an urgent report to the throne."

政恐曹、呂輩小人相陵藉，故且閉門自守耳。」 I only fear that petty men like Cao and Lu will abuse us—so for the moment I close the gates and hold my ground."

上大怒，遣中書舍人呂文顯、直閣將軍曹道剛將齋仗五百人收奐，敕鎮西司馬曹虎從江陵步道會襄陽。。 The emperor was furious and sent Palace Attendant Lü Wenxian and Direct-Palace General Cao Daogang with five hundred armed guards to arrest Wang Huan, while ordering Pacifying-the-West chief of staff Cao Hu to march overland from Jiangling and rendezvous at Xiangyang.

謂奐曰：「曹、呂來，既不見真敕，恐為奸變，正宜錄取，馳啟聞耳。」 He told Huan, "Cao and Lü are coming without a verifiable edict—we may be facing a coup. We should seize them and send an urgent report to the throne."

正恐曹、呂輩小人相陵藉，故且閉門自守耳。」 I only fear petty men like Cao and Lü will abuse us, so for now I am merely holding the gates closed."

直閣周奉叔、曹道剛素為帝心膂，並使監殿中直衛； Chamber Attendants Zhou Fengshu and Cao Daogang had long been the emperor's trusted confidants; both were put in charge of the palace guard;

少日，復以道剛為黃門郎。。 A few days later Daogang was again made Gentleman at the Yellow Gate.
