建武末，爲吏部尚書，是時尚書右僕射江祏管朝政，多所進拔，爲士子所歸。 Late in Jianwu he headed the ministry of personnel; Right Vice Director Jiang Shi then ran court politics, advanced many men, and drew the gentry to him.

始亮未爲吏部郎時，以祏帝之內弟，故深友祏，祏爲之延譽，益爲帝所器重； Earlier, before Liang headed personnel, he had been close to Shi—the emperor's brother-in-law—and Shi had praised him, so the throne prized him all the more;

及祏遇誅，羣小放命，凡所除拜，悉由內寵，亮更弗能止。 When Shi was killed, petty men had their way; every appointment ran through inner favorites, and Liang could not stop it.

璽書詰縝曰：「亮少乏才能，無聞時輩，昔經冒入羣英，相與豈薄，晚節諂事江祏，爲吏部，末協附梅蟲兒、茹法珍，遂執昏政。 An imperial letter reprimanded Zhen: "Liang in youth lacked talent and was unknown among his peers; formerly he rashly entered the ranks of worthies—we were not thin with one another; in his later years he flattered Jiang Shi; as director of personnel he finally joined Mei Chong'er and Ru Fazhen and held benighted government.

僕射江祏深相引接，祏爲太子詹事，啓革爲府丞。 Vice Minister Jiang Shi took a strong liking to him; when Shi became Crown Prince's Steward he recommended Ge as household aide.

祏時權傾朝右，以革才堪經國，令參掌機務，詔誥文檄，皆委以具。 Shi then dominated the court; judging Ge capable of statecraft, he put him in charge of urgent business, and all edicts and dispatches were drafted by Ge.

祏誅，賓客皆罹其罪，革獨以智免。 When Shi was executed, every man in his circle was implicated; Ge alone escaped through cleverness.

遙光旣輔政，見少主卽位，潛與江祏兄弟謀自樹立。 Once Yaoguang was regent and saw the young emperor enthroned, he secretly plotted with the Jiang Shi brothers to seize power for himself.

江祏被誅，東昏侯召遙光入殿，告以祏罪，遙光懼，還省便陽狂號哭，自此稱疾不復入臺。 When Jiang Shi was executed, the Marquis of Donghun summoned Yaoguang to the hall and told him of Shi's crimes. Yaoguang, terrified, returned to his office and at once feigned madness, wailing aloud; from then on he claimed illness and never again entered the Secretariat.

帝誅江祏後，慮遙光不自安，欲轉爲司徒還第，召入喻旨。 After executing Jiang Shi, the emperor feared Yaoguang would feel insecure and wished to transfer him to Grand Minister of Works and send him home; he summoned him to explain his intent.
