初從葛榮反，榮授基濟北王、寧州刺史。 At first he followed Ge Rong in rebellion; Ge Rong made Ji Prince of Jibei and governor of Ning Province.

後葛榮破，而基據城不下，尒朱榮遣使喻之，然後始降。 Later, when Ge Rong was defeated, Ji held the city and would not submit; Erzhu Rong sent envoys to instruct him, and only then did he surrender.
