鄆州節度使霍彥威移鎮青州。 Huo Yanwei moved from Yan to Qing as military commissioner.

新授青州節度使霍彥威奏，處斬新登州刺史王公儼，及同謀拒命指揮使李謹、王居厚等八人訖。 New Qing commissioner Huo Yanwei reported executing Deng prefect Wang Gongyan and eight plotters, including Li Jin and Wang Juhou.

公儼不時赴任，即以霍彥威代符習，聚兵淄州，以圖進取。 Gongyan delayed reporting; Huo Yanwei replaced Fu Xi, gathered troops at Zi, and prepared to advance.

彥威至淄州，會詔使至青州告諭，公儼即赴所任。 At Zi an envoy reached Qing with the court order, and Gongyan set out for his post.

彥威懲其初心，遣人擒公儼於北海縣，與同黨斬於州東。 Yanwei seized Gongyan at Beihai and beheaded him and his party east of the city.

彥威嘗因兵敗，獨脫其身，左右莫有從者，惟晏杖劍從之，徒步草莽，自是彥威高其義，相得甚歡。 Once, after a defeat, Yanwei escaped alone with no attendants—only Yan followed on foot through the wilds, sword in hand; from then on Yanwei prized his loyalty and they grew very close.

故彥威所至稱治，由晏之力也。 Wherever Yanwei went he was praised for good governance, and it was Yan's doing.
