天嘉二年，除貞毅將軍、新安太守，仍隨侯安都東討留異。 In the second year of Tianjia (561) he was made steadfast-resolution general and administrator of Xin'an, and marched east with Hou Andu against Liu Yi.

異黨向文政據有新安，文季率精甲三百，輕往攻之。 Yi's man Xiang Wenzheng held Xin'an. Wenji took three hundred picked armored men and struck lightly.

四年，陳寶應與留異連結，又遣兵隨周迪更出臨川，世祖遣信義太守余孝頃自海道襲晉安，文季為之前軍，所向克捷。 In the fourth year Chen Baoying allied with Liu Yi and sent troops with Zhou Di against Linchuan again. Emperor Wen sent Yu Xiaoxiang, administrator of Xinyi, by sea against Jin'an with Wenji as vanguard. Everywhere they went they prevailed.

但靈洗之立功扞禦，久而見思，文季之埋魂異域，有足可憫。 Lingxi's defensive service is long missed; Wenji lies abroad, which moves deep pity.

敬帝即位，王琳據有上流，留異、余孝頃、周迪等所在鋒起，悉達撫綏五郡，甚得民和，士卒皆樂為之用。 When Emperor Jing came to the throne, Wang Lin controlled the upper Yangzi, and Liu Yi, Yu Xiaoqing, Zhou Di, and others rose in arms everywhere. Xida pacified the five commanderies, won the people over, and his soldiers were all glad to serve him.

天嘉二年，留異據東陽反，世祖召炅還都，欲令討異。 In Tianjia year two Liu Yi rebelled at Dongyang; Emperor Wen recalled Jiong to the capital to lead the campaign against him.

未至而異平，炅還本鎮。 Before he arrived, Yi had been suppressed, and Jiong returned to his post.

尋奉使往東陽、晉安，招撫留異、陳寶應等。 He was soon sent to Dongyang and Jin'an to bring Liu Yi, Chen Baoying, and others over.
