直隸布政使吳熊光舊直軍機，上因其入覲，問曰：「人言和珅有異志，有諸？」 Zhili Provincial Administration Commissioner Wu Xiongguang had formerly served in the Grand Council. When he came to audience the emperor asked, "People say He Shen had rebellious intent—is this so?"

熊光曰：「凡懷不軌者，必收人心，和珅則滿、漢幾無歸附者，即使中懷不軌，誰肯從之？」 Wu Xiongguang said, "All who harbor disloyal designs must win people's hearts. He Shen, however, had almost no Manchus or Han who would attach themselves to him. Even if he harbored disloyal intent, who would follow him?"

熊光曰：「不速治其罪，無識之徒觀望夤緣，別滋事端。 Wu Xiongguang said, "If his crimes are not punished swiftly, ignorant men will watch and wait for opportunities, and other troubles will arise.

十三年，英吉利兵船入澳門，總督吳熊光但停貿易，未遣兵驅逐，上斥畏葸，罷熊光，調玉庭貴州。 In the thirteenth year British warships entered Macao. Governor Wu Xiongguang merely suspended trade and sent no troops to expel them. The emperor denounced his timidity, removed him from office, and transferred Sun Yuting to Guizhou.

尋百齡至粵，追論熊光，且劾玉庭不以實入告，坐罷歸。 Soon afterward Bailin arrived in Guangdong, reopened the case against Wu Xiongguang, and also impeached Sun Yuting for failing to report the facts truthfully. Sun Yuting was dismissed and sent home.
