壬申，契丹東丹王突欲自渤海國率眾到闕，帝慰勞久之，錫賚加等，百僚稱賀。 On renshen the Khitan Eastern Dan prince Tuyu arrived from Bohai with his followers; Mingzong received him at length with enhanced gifts while the court congratulated.

丁丑，東丹王托雲進本國印三紐。 On dingchou Eastern Dan king Tuoyun presented three state seals.

丁酉，幸至德宮，又幸安元信、東丹王突欲之第。 On dingyou Mingzong visited the Palace of Utmost Virtue and the homes of An Yuanxin and Eastern Dan prince Tuyu.

三月辛酉，詔渤海國人皇王突欲宜賜姓東丹，名慕華，仍授檢校太保、安東都護，充懷化軍節度、瑞鎮等州觀察等使。 In the third month on xinyou Tuyu of Bohai was given the surname Eastern Dan and name Muhua, made inspector grand guardian, Andong protector, and Huaihua commissioner with Ruizhen inspection duties.

其從慕華歸國部校，各授懷化、歸德將軍中郎將。 Officers accompanying Muhua home received Huaihua and Guide general ranks.

己亥，懷化軍節度使東丹慕華賜姓名李讚華，改封隴西縣開國公。 On jihai Eastern Dan Muhua, commissioner of Huaihua, received the surname Li and name Zanhua and was made duke of Longxi county.

庚午，以前利州節度使康思立為陝州節度使。 On gengwu former Li commissioner Kang Sili became Shan commissioner.

秋八月丁酉，謁孔子廟，命皇后、皇太子分謁寺觀。 In the eighth month of autumn, on dingyou day, he paid homage at Confucius's temple and ordered the Empress and Crown Prince to visit temples and monasteries in turn.

命皇太子將先鋒軍進擊，破之，俘獲生口萬四千二百，牛馬、車乘、廬帳、器物二十餘萬。 He ordered the Crown Prince to lead the vanguard forward; they routed the enemy, taking fourteen thousand two hundred captives and more than two hundred thousand oxen, horses, carts, tents, and goods.

皇太子率迭剌部夷離汙裏軫等略地雲內、天德。 The Crown Prince led Diela branch chiefs including Wuli Zhen and others in raids across Yunnei and Tiande.

庚申，皇太子率王郁略地定州，康默記攻長蘆。 On gengshen day the Crown Prince led Wang Yu in raids around Dingzhou, while Kang Moj attacked Changlu.

六月乙酉，召皇后、皇太子、大元帥及二宰相、諸部頭等詔曰； On yiyou day in the sixth month the Emperor summoned the Empress, Crown Prince, Grand Marshal, the two Chancellors, and chiefs of the various tribes and proclaimed an edict, saying:

詔皇太子監國，大元帥堯骨從行。 He ordered the Crown Prince to govern in his stead and took Great Marshal Yaogu with him on the march.

四年春正月壬寅，以捷報皇后、皇太子。 In the spring of the fourth year, on renyin day in the first month, word of triumph was sent to the Empress and Crown Prince.

皇后、皇太子迎謁於札里河。 The Empress and Crown Prince rode out to greet him on the Zhali River.

皇后、皇太子、大元帥堯骨皆從。 The Empress, the Crown Prince, and Great Marshal Yaogu all went with him.

冊皇太子倍為人皇王以主之。 He invested Crown Prince Bei as Renhuang Wang to govern the new domain.

皇太子、大元帥堯骨、南府宰相蘇、北院夷離堇斜涅赤，南院夷離堇迭里是夜圍忽汗城。 That night the Crown Prince, Great Marshal Yaogu, Southern Chancellor Su, Northern Division yilijin Xie Niechi, and Southern Division yilijin Dieli invested Hurhan City.

丁卯，幸人皇王宮。 On dingmao day he called at the Renhuang Wang's palace.

辛卯，人皇王率東丹國僚屬辭。 On xinmao day Renhuang Wang, with Dongdan's chief ministers, came to bid farewell.

乙巳，人皇王倍繼至。 On yisi day Renhuang Wang Bei came up behind.

義宗，名倍，小字圖欲，太祖長子，母淳欽皇后蕭氏。 Yizong, whose personal name was Bei and childhood name Tuyu, was Taizu's eldest son; his mother was Empress Chunqin of the Xiao clan.

神冊元年春，立為皇太子。 In the spring of Shence year 1 (916) he was made crown prince.

倍曰：「孔子大聖，萬世所尊，宜先。」 Bei replied, "Confucius is the supreme sage, revered through the ages—he should come first."

太祖大悅，即建孔子廟，詔皇太子春秋釋奠。 Taizu was delighted, had a Confucian temple built at once, and ordered the crown prince to conduct the spring and autumn rites of sacrifice.

太祖西征，留倍守京師，因陳取渤海計。 When Taizu marched west, he left Bei to guard the capital and urged a plan to conquer Bohai.

拔扶餘城，上欲括戶口，倍諫曰：「今始得地而料民，民必不安。 After Fuyu city fell the emperor wished to register households; Bei remonstrated, "Having just taken the land, a census will unsettle the people.

倍與大元帥德光為前鋒，夜圍忽汗城，大諲譔窮蹙，請降。 Bei and Great Marshal Deguang led the vanguard and besieged Hohan city by night; Dayinzan, cornered, offered surrender.

改其國曰東丹，名其城曰天福，以倍為人皇王主之。 The state was renamed Eastern Dan, the city renamed Tianfu, and Bei was installed as Human Emperor King to rule it.

駕將還，倍作歌以獻。 As the emperor prepared to return, Bei composed a song and presented it.

倍號泣而出。 Bei wept aloud as he departed.
